Comer man charged with family violence
A Comer man was arrested on family violence charges recently after officers were called to a domestic dispute on Cherokee Road that was called in to Madison County E-911 by Elbert County E-911.
Joseph Matthew Collins, 55, 3092 Cherokee Road, was charged with one count of battery/simple battery FVA.
According to the incident report, when officer Joshua Smith arrived on scene he found two women and a man standing outside. One of the women told Smith that her husband (Collins) was “drunk” and had hit her in the mouth. Collins, Smith noted, appeared intoxicated and unsteady on his feet, but denied that he struck his wife. His wife spointed out a cut on his knuckle that he received from her tooth when he struck her.
She said that her husband had been drinking all day. She said he at one point went to confront their neighbors about shooting his dog and then came home and told their 18-year old daughter that she needed to “get her stuff and move out.” He told his wife if she did not agree with him he wanted a divorce and began chasing her around the kitchen island taking swings at her. She said at some point during the altercation, he held her to the floor by the neck. Both wife and daughter said this is not his first incident of family violence.
