Madison County BOC to set shelter funding based on 2010 Census

Board members said the increased funding will help the shelter accomplish its goals.

“We are setting goals to decrease our euthanasia rate, increase our adoption rate and to be able to provide our low cost spay and neuter services and low cost rabies vaccines to more members of the community,” wrote shelter board member Kelly L. Lockerman to the BOC.

In other business Monday, the board approved a proclamation recognizing March 12-18 as “Brain Awareness Week” in Madison County. The local Pilot Club actively promotes brain health. The board approved Tim Nunn General Contracting Services for the county’s lawn maintenance at $280 per cutting. The commissioners approved Trey McCay as a maintenance worker at the recreation department.

The board approved requests by Colby Phillips to rezone two parcels of land — 3.85 acres and 1.21 acres — from R-R to A-1 on Brewer Phillips Road. Phillips plans to have free range chickens. The board also approved a request by Harry Duranso to rezone 4.48 acres on Parham Town Road from A-2 to R-R to build a second home on his property.

Madison County commission chairman Anthony Dove noted that clients of Fine Finish, the local program for developmentally challenged adults, has moved from the structurally flawed building off Hwy. 98 to its new locale off Hwy. 29 on Rock Quarry Road. Dove praised county building and grounds director Alan Lapczynski for his work at the renovated Madison County Library and getting the Fine Finish building ready for use.
