Madison County commissioners agreed March 5 to set the local animal shelter’s per capita contribution from the government on the 2010 Census, not the 2000 figure.
This will increase the Madison Oglethorpe Animal Shelter’s annual contribution from the county government by roughly $6,000, from approximately $78,000 to $84,000.
Shelter board members are also asking the Oglethorpe County Board of Commissioners to use the 2010 Census for their per capita contributions to the shelter. Both counties contribute $3 per year per person.
Shelter board members informed the commissioners Monday that they have interviewed potential shelter directors and are trying to have more funding available to hire a director.
The board intends to hire a director at $20,000 per year, then increase the salary after 90 days to $22,000, with another raise to $24,000 offered after six months based on satisfactory performance.
