Man assaulted by gas thieves
A man on Homestead Road was assaulted recently at his home when he discovered two men attempting to steal gas from his wife’s mini van.
According to the incident report, the man said he was sitting in his bedroom with his small dog when the dog began barking toward the window. The window faces the road and the area where his wife parks her van. He said he got up and went to the front door where he saw a white male squatting down beside his wife’s van at the gas tank, holding a gas can and with the gas door open. He said he went out to confront the man and was “blindsided” by another white man who was standing at the end of the house. He said both men began beating him on the head with an unknown object. Officer Joshua Smith noted that the victim had two knots just above his eyes and red marks on the back of his neck. The victim said they left the scene in a gray older model Honda car headed towards Black’s Creek Church Road. He said the vehicle had been parked in front of his residence behind a section of trees out of view of the street light.
He was taken by EMS to St. Mary’s for treatment of his injuries. Before leaving, he said they had also taken his cell phone. During a search of the area, a pry bar was located, which appeared to have been used to pry open the gas tank door. The cell phone was not located and AT&T officials reportedly said they could not “ping” the phone because it was not a life-threatening situation and that the request would have to go through legal services.
