Colbert man charged with second-degree arson
A Colbert man was arrested on arson charges recently after he allegedly set fire to his home.
William Ryan Carey, 31, 144 Isabelle’s Way, was charged with second-degree arson.
According to the incident report, Hull VFD and law enforcement found multiple points of origin of the fire inside the home and a gasoline odor.
In another arrest, a Hull woman was taken into custody after she refused to stop harassing another woman by phone.
Myrtie Lynn Wright, 48, 3631 Neese Commerce Road, was charged with one count of harassing phone calls. According to the report, the victim stated she had asked her to stop calling but she continued to call at all hours of the day and night, waking her up. Officer Chad Parr went to the offender’s residence and told her to stop calling. She called again calling the victim names and cursing at her. She was arrested.
In a third arrest, two people were taken to jail after officer Brandon Hanley and another officer were dispatched to a broken down vehicle on Hwy. 106 South partially in the road.
Casey Barnett Johnson, 32, 37 Campbell Street, Royston, was charged with possession and use of drug-related objects, reckless conduct and possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance.
Kayla Melissa Brown, 26, 3555 Hwy. 17, Canon, was charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and possession of tools for the commission of a crime.
According to the incident report, Brown was seated in the green Ford Explorer while Johnson worked under the hood. Hanley offered his assistance and was told they were waiting on a friend to bring them a battery. While there, the officers noticed a hypodermic needle lying near Johnson’s feet and a pill bottle with five oblong pills in them. Without being asked, Johnson denied ownership of them, according to the report. Brown then gave permission for her vehicle to be searched where they found a glass smoking pipe with a clear crystal residue on it.
Others arrested by law enforcement in Madison County included:
•Milton Omar Carrasco, 30, 125 Jennings Mill Pkwy, Apt. 8212, Athens, was charged with theft by taking, DUI/alcohol, driving while license suspended or revoked and public drunkenness. According to the incident report, Carrasco came into Alewine’s Auto Salvage c drunk and began fighting with the employees and causing disruption. When he was asked to leave, he allegedly jumped on the storeowner’s four-wheeler and drove off before flipping it end over end next to Hwy. 29. When police arrived, several employees were holding Carrasco on the ground to keep him from fighting. He was extremely intoxicated, according to the report and bleeding from the head and arms.
•Morgan Robert Woods, 57, 42 Mae Drive, Danielsville, was arrested for public drunkenness after a man on Coley Davis Road reported that he was at his home, drunk and disorderly. Officer Jeffrey Vaughn found Woods lying on the ground in the yard surrounded by multiple cans of Natural Light. The homeowner said Woods was dropped off at his home about 3 p.m. already severely drunk. He said that Woods was cursing in the yard and then began tearing things up inside the house. When he told Woods to leave, he went outside and fell in the yard. Since Woods had nowhere else to go due to multiple DUI arrests, he was taken to jail so he could “sober up.”
•Joshua David Smith, 21, 3516 Transco Road, Comer, was charged with simple battery FVA and criminal trespass after his wife called 9-1-1 following a domestic dispute. The responding officer found a door off its hinges and a broken cell phone lying on the floor. The couple’s three children were also present.
•Tony Devon Bullins, 53, Carruth, Jefferson, driving while license withdrawn, obstruction, removing or affixing a license plate with intent to conceal or misrepresent, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer and three counts of probation violation (felony).
•Samuel Thomas Anderson, 42, 1052 Timber Glenn Court, Lilburn, probation violation.
•Lynn Hope Bailes, 46, 445 Jack Sharp Road, Colbert, DUI/drugs and following too closely.
•Terry Joe Baxter, 56, 170 Orchard Drive, Commerce, stalking.
