A Covington man was arrested recently after he allegedly attempted to break into a home on Miller McElreath Road.
Jonathan James Walsh, 32, 3396 Old Covington Hwy. was charged with criminal attempt to commit a felony. Other charges are pending.
According to the incident report, a woman called to report a possible burglary in progress at her home. Upon arrival deputy Greg Bryson and Sgt. Gary Floyd noticed that a glass in the back door had been broken and that a screen had been removed from a window beside the door. There appeared to be blood on both the door and the window. In the meantime, a structure fire was spotted about a quarter of a mile away and another deputy left to go to that location. On the way, he spotted a cell phone and t-shirt lying in the road. The woman inside the home said she had heard someone beating on her front door and ringing her doorbell. She called her father, who lives nearby and then heard glass breaking. She gathered her children and locked them all in the bathroom, where she called 9-1-1. Her father arrived but did not see anyone, although he reported that all his cows in the adjacent pasture were running as if they had been spooked. A short time later, Sgt. Floyd picked up a white male suspect (Walsh) walking along Friendship Church Road.
In another arrest an Athens woman was taken into custody last week after police were call ed multiple times to domestic calls at a residence on Glenn Carrie Road.
Ellen Colton-Norveisas, 43, 131 Ashley Circle, Apt. 4, was charged with disorderly conduct.
According to the incident report, officer Michael Moore arrived at the residence for the second time that day because Norveisas was allegedly threatening a man at the home. When Moore went inside he discovered a 2-year old child “basically unattended and naked.” He ordered Norveisas to attend to the child and she did. She appeared to be intoxicated. The man said she was cursing and had become and loud and boisterous several times that day in front of the child. Both parties were issued warnings for a disorderly house.
