George Bullock has been named interim principal of Madison County High School.
Bullock has served as the assistant principal at MCHS and head of the school’s Freshman Academy for the past four years.
Madison County Middle School assistant principal Veronica Hunter will move into Bullock’s former role as head of the Freshman Academy.
The county school board approved superintendent Dr. Allen McCannon’s recommendations for the changes May 8.
“We felt at this time of year we have a lot of initiatives going on at the high school and it would be best if we moved on in an interim basis with Mr. Bullock,” said McCannon.
The superintendent said Bullock, a former science teacher, has done a good job at the Freshman Academy. He said Bullock’s role at the high school will be reviewed during the next school year.
“We’ll just talk in the winter or spring and see how things are going,” said McCannon.
Bullock replaces Dr. Chad Stone, who is leaving the high school after three years, to take a job closer to his family in south Georgia due to a family illness.
The superintendent said Hunter will do a good job taking over at the Freshman Academy, adding that she will be a stabilizing force for middle schoolers entering the high school environment.
“She has a great knowledge of the students at the middle school and will help them in their freshman year,” he said.

I really thought you were a better man than that but I am beginning to see once you get the big head like you have you obviously think you have to answer to no one.
BUT YOUR WRONG !!!!
We must all stick together and call for the resignation of the superintendent immediately !
He is the one making all the decisions without consulting with anyone at all.
MR.McCANNON RESIGN NOW !!!!
I am a parent of 2 in the middle school. My kids have looked to Dr. Hunter for encouragement and have felt safe when there have been some bullying issues that Dr. Hunter absolutely did NOT put up with. I'm not saying the other teachers did, I'm saying Dr. Hunter handled things in a way - that put a STOP to the bullying and made the kids think twice before doing it again to my kids. She's done this for many, not just my kids.
I really wish the people directly involved could have had a chance to give their opinion and fight for Dr. Hunter to be the middle school principal before making a decision that helped solve Mr. McCannon's issues. It's about the kids Mr. McCannon - NOT you!!!!!! If you were to actually ask Dr. Hunter what job she would want, what would she say? Have you thought about asking her?
You better think quick, cause if she gets screwed over in Madison Co., I'm scared we would lose her all together and she would gladly jump on board in a position she wanted in another county. Smooth Mr.McCannon, real smooth!
Dr. Hunter is known by her actions. The way she treats children and adults in a caring way.
Dr. Hunter would have supported the new principal to the best of her ability because that is the kind of person that she is. She is incapable of not doing the right thing and the Christian thing.
Those that know her at all understand the integrity with which she conducts herself at all time.
This was clearly a case of one man doing what he wanted to do for whatever reason I am not sure. The motive here is unclear but maybe the board should not be so trusting of one mans judgement.
To say the least I am disheartened by the situation at MCMS. Developmentally, middle school is a critical time for our children. During this time they need a tremendous amount of support from the people in their environment. To take this away is a disservice to our children. However, I have heard someone special say "God don't like ugly" and those words give me comfort. As a community we feel our words and actions have no meaning but God trumps ALL. I pray God gives Dr. Hunter the strength to love and pray for her enemies, to exceed all of her expectations, and comfort in knowing she has the support of the community. As for McCannon, the Board of Education, and others involved in this scheme I can honestly say I have no desire to hear an explanation. I feel at this point the only explanation you would offer would be another sketchy attempt to make you look innocent.
McCannon is not a bad guy, you bunch of jerks.
The middle school has been a site of "turmoil" ...well, forever... it is middle school.
I'm so glad there are five or six of you people who help everyone else find out "what's really going on."
Do you think so poorly about everyone else who works at that middle school that you feel it will fall apart without Coach Hunter?
As someone who has participated in more than my fair share of interviews in the realm of government education - I must tell you that "fair and ethical" are not in the rubric.
I am also concerned by your decision to refer to Dr. Hunter as "Coach." While she was a wonderful coach, she has not coached a sport in over six years. However, she does have a doctorate degree and currently utilizes the skills and knowledge she gained earning that degree on a daily basis. It seems to be an immature attempt to lower her to Coach Colquitt's status. Understand I do not know Mr. Colquitt personally, but the community's objection to his appointment as principal has nothing to do with him. The crux of the situation is that Mr. McCannon chose to give him this job without following through with the proper and ethical stages to the interview process.
Simply stated: it's Mr. McCannon's lack of fairness and ethics that make him a bad superintendent.
I called her Coach Hunter because that is how I fondly remember the woman. I am unsure why you would infer an derision from that. Do you normally feel scornful towards people who devote countless extra hours forming bonds with students on the playing fields which can positively impact children for years?
With all due respect, you, nor none of these unhappy posters, knows what went on during the hiring process. As I stated in my first post, fair and ethical are usually not a part of the process, however.
With the job market in education in the shape it is in, you are fairly lucky to have it.
I am sure that Mr McCannon has only the best interests of the students in mind. Do you even know him?
Kudos for looking up my moniker. A more apt translation would be sarcastically sneering truth.
