It’s almost time for election hopefuls to toss their hat in the ring for local elections.
Qualifying for the July 31 county primaries opens May 23 for Republicans and Democrats and non-partisan candidates.
Here is a summary of local qualifying information:
REPUBLICAN PARTY
The Madison County Republican Party will hold candidate qualifying beginning Wednesday, May 23, at 9 a.m. through Friday, May 25, at noon at the chamber of commerce Building, 101 Courthouse Square, Danielsville, GA 30633.
Qualifying will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday, qualifying will run from 9 a.m. and close at noon. Candidates should contact Bruce Azevedo at 706-296-3834 to arrange for an appointment date and time.
DEMOCRATIC PARTY
The Democratic Party will qualify candidates for the upcoming Democratic Party Primary Election on May 23 and 24 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on May 25 from 8 a.m. until noon. Qualification of local candidates for the July 31 Primary will be held in the Madison County government complex in Danielsville. Candidates for state office must qualify with the State Democratic Party at the State Capitol building during the same hours. Madison County Democrats will be on hand to help candidates complete the required forms. NON-PARTISAN QUALIFYING
Non-partisan qualifying will be held Wednesday, May 23, at 9 a.m. through Friday, May 25, at noon with the county election superintendent in the Madison County Government Complex. Non-partisan races include the probate judge’s office and districts 3, 4 and 5 for the county school board.

County commissioners approved qualifying fees for county offices in January: Sheriff, $1,779.86; Clerk of Superior Court, $1,491.65; Tax Commissioner, $1,491.65; Probate Judge, $1,491.65; Chairman, BOC, $1,779.86; Coroner, $294; County Surveyor, $10; Board of Education, $78.26; and District Commissioner, $216.
