A Colbert woman was arrested last week after she refused repeatedly to come to the door of a residence on McCarty Dodd Road despite requests from deputies. They were called to the scene after the homeowner called 9-1-1 to say she took his pants and locked him out of his residence.
Kathy Canada Craig, 52, 444 Kellogg Drive, Colbert, was charged with obstruction of law enforcement officers after officers tried repeatedly to get her to open the door. The complainant said he let her stay at his house because she was homeless and that during the night she took his pants with his wallet, keys and other items in them and hid them. She would not give him his pants back and allegedly began “acting crazy” so he went outside. She then locked him out of his house.
Officer Stephen Waller was the first one on scene. He identified himself as an officer and told her to open the door, to which she replied “just a minute.” This continued several more times, with Craig saying “just a minute,” each time she was asked to open the locked door. Corporal Alan Stratton arrived on scene and knocked on the door asking her to open the door, to which Craig replied, “I’m taking a bath.” After five or six times of this, the complainant was given permission to use force to open his door. As he attempted to open the door, Craig unlocked it and came out fully clothed. There were no signs she had been taking a bath. Craig was arrested for obstruction and also cited for criminal trespass.
Two days later, the man reported that Craig had also taken about 182 prescription pills that belonged to him. He was explained the warrant process through the court system.
In another arrest, two men were taken into custody following a fight on Black’s Creek Church Road. Timothy Jason Highfield, 38, 1967 Black’s Creek Church Road, Danielsville, was charged with simple battery, while William Matthew Autry, 28, 1967 Black’s Creek Church Road, Danielsville, was arrested on a hold for Clarke County.
According to the incident report, officer Joshua Smith responded to a third party call about a fight involving two males and mention of a “knife.” Smith arrived and met with Highfield, who told him that his niece and her boyfriend (Autry) had been arguing and that he intervened. He said Autry threatened him saying “I’m gonna’ cut you.” He said Autry was carrying a shiny item that could have been a knife. Autry, on the other hand, said Highfield stabbed him. He had a small laceration on his left side near his ribs. The niece, who witnessed the altercation backed her boyfriend’s story and said her uncle stabbed him for “no reason.” She said she was not sure what he had been stabbed with.
