A portion of Colbert-Danielsville Road will soon be resurfaced.
County commissioners agreed June 15 to approve a contract with Allied Paving to resurface 2.4 miles of Colbert-Danielsville Road from the city of Colbert to Colbert Grove Church Road for just over $277,000.
Commissioner Jim Escoe provided the motion for the action. The vote passed 4-1, with commissioner Dewitt “Pete” Bond providing the lone “No.”
“Why don’t we do the whole road instead of just half?” asked Bond.
The Colbert end of the road is in Escoe’s district 5, while the Danielsville side is in Bond’s district 4.
The BOC received bids on paving the Colbert portion of the road as well as separate bids on paving the entire six-mile road. The entire project would have cost just over $673,000.
Bond made a motion to pave the whole road, but it failed due to a lack of a second.
Escoe said he’d like to see the road paved before school starts back. Colbert-Danielsville Road is a heavily traveled road, particularly when school is in session.
“It’s a main thoroughfare,” said Escoe. “I’d hate to see it if we neglect it another year.”
The board also agreed to have a pipe replaced on Colbert-Danielsville Road near the high school.

Because the whole road doesn't need paving Commissioner Bond. Just because it is election time doesn't mean you can waste the taxpayers money to feather your own nest! Look around your district, I'm sure you can find something that needs your attention beside paving a road that the county doesn't have the money to waste on. Wake up Commissioner Bond!! Maybe we need a change!!
