A grand opening was held June 14 for Madison County’s new Fine Finish facility, which provides daytime services to developmentally challenged adults.

“It’s an answer to my prayers,” said Dr. Barbara Geter, Advantage Behavioral’s director of developmental disabilities. “This is indeed an occasion created by Madison Countians caring for Madison Countians.”

Fine Finish has moved from its old locale in a structurally flawed building off Hwy. 98, to a former commercial structure in Lakeview Business Park off Rock Quarry Road, not far from the red light in Danielsville.

Fine Finish clients, administrators, parents and employees were on hand Thursday, along with numerous local dignitaries to celebrate the opening of the new facility.

The previous building sat atop an old landfill.

“When we were in that building we were afraid we’d fall in a hole every day,” said Fine Finish manager Helen Smith. “It was hard to believe we’d be in a building like this.”

Former Fine Finish manager Lee Smith said Thursday was a “beautiful moment.”

“This building is evidence of commitment,” said Smith. “It’s a statement that says we care about our DD (developmentally disabled) population.”

Cindy Darden, CEO of Advantage Behavioral Health Systems, which oversees Fine Finish, said clients will enjoy the benefits of a better facility for years to come.

“Many lives will be changed in this room and the rest of this building,” she said.

Fine Finish leaders thanked numerous local businesses and agencies that helped make the move a reality, including the county commission chairman Anthony Dove, the board of commissioners, State Senator Frank Ginn, the Pilot Club, the Fine Finish Advisory Board and the sheriff’s department.

“This is one occasion where I can say the citizens of Madison County have done good,” said Dove.

Marvin White, chairman of the Fine Finish Advisory Board, echoed Dove’s sentiments.

“This is the finest building in Georgia for this type of facility,” said White.

So who is at fault for building a faulty structure on Hwy 98???

Excellent question and that was discussed a while back. I think it was the surveyor but for some reason there was no one to sue.

Wow! Mr. White clearly hasn't been outside the borders of Madison County. Um, it's an improvement from substandard and dangerous to habitable, but hardly the "finest building in GA" for those with disabilities. Most ignorant statement I've read in the Journal in 10 years.

MC often has ignorant county employee's as they work against the private sector that supports them. Yep:they would be happy to be like Greece.

I have a question ? Dr. Geter is that person paid and if so how much ? How much if paid is from local and federal taxes ? Just curios.

Want Mr. Dove to fire or demote person's responsible for the faulty building on Hwy 98.

The old building was not built on his watch even if it was he wouldn't fire anyone it seems to me employees do as they please. I support Fine Finish being in a building that is safe, my question is what was the total cost of the renovation? Per Mr. Thomas it was virtually a turn key move in, how much did the key cost us?
