Madison County commissioners will soon crunch numbers for the 2013 budget.
County commissioners will meet July 16 and 20, at 10 a.m. in the county government complex and hear from department heads and constitutional officers about their budget needs for next year.
“We should have all the numbers in for the digest by then,” said commission chairman Anthony Dove.
County leaders are expecting a dip of roughly 10 percent in the tax digest this year. The digest is the county’s overall property value. A drop in the digest means the county can expect to bring in less revenue from property taxes to operate the government in 2013.
“We’ll discuss the digest and the mills (tax rate) at the July 2 meeting,” said Dove.
At the close of Monday’s meeting, local pastor Glenn Guest addressed the board about the county budget and then spoke of much broader issues. He said he foresees very dark economic days ahead. He said the economic troubles happening in Europe will trigger catastrophic events.
“What we’ve come through will feel like a minor hiccup,” he told commissioners, adding that he believes the world is headed for a total economic collapse and the formation of one world currency.
He urged the commissioners not to incur any debt and to “be prepared spiritually” for economic troubles.
“I want to tell you things are fixing to get really, really bad,” he said. “The truth is, we’re in worse shape than Europe is right now.”

Yeah, I know. Kinda like the religion of global warming alarmists.
Actually feel sorry for the commissioners that you had to sit, nod, and feign attention while the foolish Pastor Guest embarrassed himself with his ignorance. Again.
He is right about one thing though; there will be one world currency, and one world government controlled by corporations. He may also know that religions won't be allowed in the future world.
"Imagine there's no countries
it's easy if you try
No Hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people, living for today."
How prophetic is that?
Fred Seaman, Lennon's last personal assistant, was shocked by his conversion to conservatism. He said Lennon was embarrassed by naivete during the "Imagine" years.
We all have to eventually grow up sometime.
