Commerce man airlifted following Hwy. 98 wreck

A 52-year old Commerce man was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center with severe injuries on Monday, June 25, following a one-vehicle crash on Hwy. 98 near Midway Grocery around 6:30 p.m. According to the Georgia State Patrol, Randy Owensby, driving a 2001 BMW passenger car struck a utility pole after flipping over multiple times.

The GSP stated that a witness at the scene said the BMW was traveling east on Hwy. 98 at a high rate of speed, where it passed the witness’ vehicle and four other vehicles before running off the road and striking a ditch. The vehicle then became airborne, where it flipped multiple times until stopped by the utility pole. The vehicle came to rest right side up, according to the report.
