Madison Co. man charged with murder in Athens

A Madison County man has been charged with murder in Athens.

Michael Anthony Smyles, 26, Colbert, has been charged with the shooting death of Octavious Walter, 36, Athens, at Triplett Mobile Home Park on Danielsville Road at 8:25 p.m. Wednesday.

Smyles was charged with murder and aggravated assault.

The killing marked the first murder in Athens in 2012.
