Atlanta man faces family violence charge
An Atlanta man was charged with family violence last week after he allegedly struck the mother of his child when she refused to allow him to take the child for a visit.
Alonzo Dennis Sims, 26, 1007 Oak Chase Drive, Atlanta, was charged with one count of battery/simple battery FVA.
According to the incident report, officer Brandon Moss was dispatched to Old Church Road concerning a child’s father who would not leave. When Moss arrived, he asked Sims what was going on, to which Sims allegedly replied “we ain’t fighting.” Then he stated he had come to pick up his child and the child’s mother would not allow him to take the child. He said she told him that he needed to leave and that he had stood in the doorway to block her from going back inside. Sims admitted that he did not have court-ordered visitation rights.
Moss met with the child’s mother, who had a bloody lip. She said Sims had come to pick up the child and when she told him he could not have the child and attempted to go back inside the house, Sims stood in the doorway and then grabbed her and pushed her to the ground when she attempted to go around him. She said he then jumped on top of her and began striking her. Two witnesses at the scene corroborated the woman’s story.
In another incident, a woman on Stapler Road reported that five $100 bills were taken from her purse that she left laying on the couch while she took a shower. She said only one person was in the house at the time and he was sitting on the couch near the purse. The suspect said he did not take the money, but said that a male subject he knows only as “Fat” had come by earlier in the day and that it could have been him who took the money. He said he goes out with the victim all the time and had no reason to take her money.
The next day, the suspect in this incident summoned officers back to the residence, where he said he was sitting on the couch again when the woman whose money was missing and another man returned from Walmart. He said the man began kicking him in the legs and dragged him across the floor, threatening him with a pipe. He said the man kept telling him he wanted “his” $500 back. The man said he told the other man he did not take the money, but the man continued to kick him. He requested EMS take him to the hospital.
Charles M. Janes, 68, 485 Stapler Road, Athens, was then arrested on one count of simple battery. Janes said he told the man he wanted his money back and for him to get out of his house, but that the man would not give him his money or leave, so he began kicking him in the buttocks. Witnesses at the scene claimed they did not see or hear anything.
