ELECTION UPDATE: Thomas wins Republican runoff for sheriff

Incumbent Kip Thomas has defeated challenger Clayton Lowe 2,976 to 2,683 (52.6 to 47.4 percent) in the Madison County Sheriff’s Republican Primary.

In the coroner’s race, Julie Phillips defeated John Sartain 2,987 to 2,493 (54.5 to 45.5 percent).

In the Republican Primary for the Georgia District 9 U.S. House of Representatives seat, Doug Collins defeated Martha Zoller in Madison County 3,324 to 1,985 (62 to 38 percent).
