Three rabies cases have been confirmed in Madison County within the past week, county leaders said Friday.
Two of the cases involved skunks at locations on Applebaum Way and Charles Hart Road in the Colbert area. In both cases, the skunks had been killed by local residents and turned over to animal control. The third case involved a deceased horse in the area of Friendship Church Road and Chandler Road.
All residents are encouraged to take the following precautions:
•Be sure your pets are current on rabies vaccinations.
•Avoid any wild animal exhibiting unusual behavior such as aggression, lack of fear of people, or appearances during odd times of the day.
•Report any incidents of bites from any animal to your local health department.
•Do not hesitate to call 9-1-1 if you suspect an animal may be rabid.
