Madison County High School could someday be host to a new regional college and career academy.
The Madison County School System and Athens Technical College are working together with Clarke, Elbert and Oglethorpe county school districts to create a new “Regional Advanced Agriculture-Industry College and Career Academy” that will be locate on the Madison County High School campus in Danielsville.
The first step toward making the academy a reality is to develop a concept and submit an application for a $3.15 million grant from the state, which is due Sept. 24.
The purpose of this joint high school and technical college facility will be to provide programs to help prepare students for successful careers in the local workforce.
“Renovation and expansion funds have already been obtained through SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) that will enable us to accomplish most of this project,” according to school superintendent Dr. Allen McCannon.
The superintendent said school officials hope to develop a state-of-the-art academy facility that will offer both secondary and dual-enrollment technical college programs to help prepare high school students for successful careers in agriculture, industrial technologies, healthcare and other fields.

The high school will still continue like normal in the newer parts of the school with the addition of more agriculture classes. Students at MCHS are already allowed to have "dual enrollment" to take high school and college classes at Athens Tech their senior year. This will incorporate more of this and allow the students to stay on campus for these classes.
