A Colbert man was arrested last week on family violence charges following an incident at his home.
James Edward Brock, Jr., 40, 459 Jack Sharp Road, was charged with one county of battery FVA.
According to the incident report, Brock’s wife stated that she and Mr. Brock had walked over to her brother-in-law’s house and that her husband left and came home. She stayed a while longer and after walking home she knocked on the front door several times but could not get inside. Mr. Brock did not have a key either, and she said he had climbed through the bedroom window to get inside. She also climbed in the window where she found allegedly found her husband “sitting on the bed eating a salad.” She told him he was a “sorry S.O.B.” for not letting her in. They then began to argue and he threw the salad in her direction and then pushed her so that she fell into the bedroom closet. After she got up she said she then went to assist her elderly mother.
When she came back into the bedroom later, she and Mr. Brock began to argue again. While they were both in the bathroom, he allegedly “backhanded her” across the chest, causing visible injury and redness. They argued a while longer and then laid down on the couch to wait for her daughter to get home with her vehicle. Once her daughter came home, she had her drive her to the hospital since she was experiencing “pain all over.”
She told the Deputy Jason Ring that she also wanted the incident documented. Deputy Ring took the report in the emergency room of Athens Regional Hospital. The victim’s daughter gave Ring a key to the residence because, she stated, Brock would not come to the door.
Deputy Ring and Lt. David Larkins went to the residence where they first knocked on the door, but no one answered. They then entered the residence to find Mr. Brock in bed asleep. They woke him up and charged him with battery, transporting him to the Madison County Jail.
