A Hull convenience store owner is in the crime reports again recently.
Mohammad Shafiq, 43, 84 Hidden Falls Drive, Hull, was charged with battery under the Family Violence Act and cruelty to children in the third degree Aug. 30.
According to an incident report released this week by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, a Department of Family and Children’s Service (DFCS) worker asked a Madison County officer to accompany him on an appointment with a woman at her home.
The woman said she had been living with Shafiq (the father of her child) in Hidden Falls Subdivision in Hull when she asked to ride with Shafiq to town. She said he became so angry he hit her with her son’s fishing pole and broke her toe. She said she was also hit with an iron cord and the end of a plug causing a cut to the pelvic area of her right leg, which later became infected. She also said that on another occasion he struck her in the face, leaving bruises on the bridge of her nose and on her left arm. She said this occurred in front of her son and a friend. The friend corroborated her story.
Shafiq was in the news recently in the Madison County Sheriff’s race, claiming that candidate Clayton Lowe harassed him during a chance meeting at Sam’s Club in Athens. Lowe refuted that claim. Shortly after, Shafiq was arrested for election fraud for allegedly manipulating voter registration cards.
He may be a Kip supporter, but from where I'm sitting, it doesn't look like that is helping him any. You people need to take a criminal law class. They can't arrest him without cause. Voter fraud and abuse aren't light charges. Some people just aren't happy no matter what anyone does in this county.
