A mother and daughter were arrested for family violence recently at the mother’s Wildcat Bridge Road home.
Destini Dawn Hopkins, 23, 33 Crowe Street, Royston and Katharine Boy Hopkins, 56, 4948 Wildcat Bridge Road, Royston, were each charged with battery FVA.
According to the incident report, the mother said that her daughter was “cussing at her” and she asked her to stop and when didn’t, she smacked her across the face. Her daughter then allegedly threw a hair-straightening iron at her, striking her in the arm. Since there was a 3-year-old at the residence, the daughter was taken to jail and the mother was told to turn herself in the next day.
Other incidents on file at the sheriff’s office recently included:
•Arson was reported on Waggoner’s Grove Church Road last week after Colbert Fire Department reported a fire that appeared to be intentionally set. Fire officials said the fire had been extinguished, but it appeared that someone had either thrown something in the window of the building or had walked into the building and set the fire. No one was around the building when the fire department arrived and there were no suspects at the time of the report.
•A woman on West Kellogg Drive reported that her daughter had received several threatening text messages from an unknown person. She said she had two suspects in mind who are her daughter’s co-workers. She said her daughter has had previous problems with the two men harassing her at work.
•There were several reports of people wanting to do harm to themselves. At least three people were transported to Athens Regional for evaluation.
•A man on Glenn Carrie Road called to report that his wife assaulted him and took his glasses. When officer Klint Segars arrived at the residence, the husband was on his hands and knees in the front yard looking for his eyeglasses. He said that his wife was accusing him of cheating on her because his job often requires that he is away late at night. He said she began arguing with him so he was going to leave when she grabbed his glasses off his face. He cannot drive without them so he reached for them and scratched her. He said this is an ongoing problem and that she is always accusing him of cheating on her and that he leaves to avoid the altercations. Segars found the glasses so the husband could leave. Pictures were taken of the scratch on the wife’s face and she was explained how the TPO and warrant process works.
•A white male approximately six feet tall, 200 pounds reportedly stole a number of 36-packs of Bud Light beer from Ingles last week and left in a black Town Car heading toward Hwy. 72 West.
•Someone burglarized Danielsville Pawn Shop by busting out a window. Five handguns were reported missing from a broken display case. Later in the week, officers were alerted to an alarm call at the pawnshop, where they found that the front door had been kicked in in attempt to gain entry. The attempt was unsuccessful and the suspect attempted to cut into the molding around the door in a second attempt to gain entry.
•Several items were stolen from a locked barn behind a vacant home on Hammond Williams Road.
•A window a/c unit and two ceiling fans were reported missing from an unoccupied home on Adams Clarke Road.
•A man on Hudson RiversChurch Road reported that another man he knows had come to his residence and accused him of being a thief. He said when he denied it the man told him he would “&*(#” him up the next time he saw him out. He stated he was in fear for his life.
•A woman went to the sheriff’s office last week to report that the mail carrier found a woman’s wallet laying in the road on Ed Coile Road. The wallet was placed into an evidence locker as found property. It reportedly contained several gift cards, receipts and coins.
•A couple on Fred Goss Road reported that they found a letter on the side of the road near their mailbox. The folded white piece of paper had misspelled words giving details regarding a female who allegedly works at Fantasy World and also contained sexual details involving several children. The letter, which did not mention any names or addresses, was given to an investigator for follow up.
•A man on Waggoner’s Grove Church Road said he fears for his life due to threats he has received from his estranged wife and her family. He said he recently moved to Madison County from Tennessee to get away from his wife’s family because his wife has tried to have him killed before for money and life insurance. He and his wife are going through a divorce. He said he went home and found his brother-in-law at his house. He said this same brother-in-law was at a job site in Tennessee where he was dropping off some materials and when he saw him he got on a CB radio and started threatening to kill him. The warrant process was explained to him and he was told to call 9-1-1 if he sees any of his wife’s family at his residence.
•A woman at a salon on Main Street reported that a customer she does not know came into the salon for a haircut and that while she was cutting his hair he began touching her inappropriately. The incident was turned over to an investigator.
•A man on Hwy. 106 South reported that someone stole his daughter’s bike from their house.
•A woman on Gunnel Road reported that her dog had been shot. She said she found the dog on her front porch, but didn’t know if it had been shot in her yard or out of her yard. She said she is having problems with her landlord to whom she owes money. She carried the dog to the vet for treatment. The landlord said he did not shoot the dog, but that the dog and another one had been in his chicken houses and he had to run them off the day before. The case was turned over to animal control.
•A woman on Lakeview Circle reported that her prescription narcotics had been stolen from her vehicle while it was parked in her driveway.
•A man on Lem Edwards Road reported that a chain saw was stolen from a locked storage building on his property.
•A woman came to the sheriff’s office to report that her BB&T checking account had been compromised. An Internet purchase had been made by a man for a culinary item for an industrial kitchen.
•A man on McCarty Dodd Road reported that a rear wheel and tire had been stolen from his 50 cc scooter. He told officers that a young white male had approached him in his yard the previous Friday wanting to buy the scooter and stated that he needed a back tire. He said he did not know this person.
•A man on Hardman Morris Road reported that his silver 2007 Chevrolet Impala four-door sedan had been taken by a friend of his who had been staying with him off and on for the past six weeks. He said the car was registered to his wife, who is currently serving in the armed forces in Afghanistan. A laptop was also taken.
