In view of a recent attack this past week on a young lady walking and jogging on Peachtree Street by four dogs running loose in a pack, I find it necessary to contact all residents concerning this issue. The lady was bitten twice, suffered severe puncture wounds which required medical treatment. The county dog-control unit picked up and euthanized two of the dogs. At last report, the other two dogs remain loose.
The City of Colbert and the county both have a leash ordinance, which requires all dog owners to restrain their pets by leash or confined in a well-constructed fence. The city has contracted with the County Animal Control to pick up dangerous and/or threatening animals. A citation can be issued and a fine imposed of up to $1,000. Unrestrained dogs have become a real problem in and around our city, therefore, we have this urgent plea for your help in resolving this issue before anyone else gets injured.
Thank you for helping us be more efficient in animal control.
Sincerely,
Chris Peck
Mayor of Colbert
