A Madison County High School junior has died following a one-car accident on Colbert-Danielsville Road at Kincaid Road Tuesday night.
Caitlyn Christy, 17, was pronounced dead shortly after midnight Wednesday morning at Athens Regional Medical Center, according to coroner Michelle Cleveland.
According to Sheriff Kip Thomas, the wreck happened about 11 p.m. as Christy was traveling toward Danielsville.
Cleveland said Christy, who was driving a Honda Accord, ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected and lost control. The vehicle flipped and came to rest on the opposite side of the road. Christy, who Cleveland said was not wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected from the vehicle. Madison County EMS worked with her at the scene and transported her to ARMC, where she later died.
“My heart goes out to her family and friends,” said Madison County school superintendent Dr. Allen McCannon. “The thoughts and prayers of the entire system are with them.”
Madison County High School principal George Bullock shared the news with the faculty and staff Wednesday and said the school had counselors available for grieving students.
“As we process this heartbreaking loss, please keep the family, students, teachers, and friends in your hearts, prayers and thoughts,” said Bullock.

If you are a county commissioner reading this, how many more have to die on this road before you wake up and fix this. It is your responsibility to recognize these dangerous areas and fix them. As a parent who has experienced a loss on this same road, do the right thing now. It has been 7 yrs since our loss and not a thing has been done to address this stretch of dangerous road. I pray it doesn't take the loss of an elected officials child for this to be fixed. PLEASE HELP

You are so right! I have been before the commissioners, I have called them, I have written a letter to the editor of this newspaper and nothing has been done! I'm furious and frustrated. I live just below this dangerous hill and have seen 3 accidents where young girls have died. I have seen many wrecks where people have gone air borne and sailed into my pasture, some landing in my front yard.I pay taxes and expect something to be done! This hill is so deceiving because as you top it, the hill bears slightly to the right. It will cause a young driver to over correct.

This is the second child to die in exactly the same place on that road. Will anything get the attention of the chairman and commission? Too busy worrying about a bridge that nobody will ever cross on a road no one cares about.
