Dogs’ heads left at home on Old Elberton Road
Aggravated cruelty to animals and criminal trespass were reported on Old Elberton Road recently after a man told officer Andrew Wilkes that someone has been putting dog heads on his front porch.
The complainant said someone put a head in front of the steps the day before between 4 and 9 p.m. but that they did not report it because they thought another dog could have brought it there. Then, sometime between noon and 4 p.m. that day, someone left another one, this time on his front steps. He said he had no idea who could be doing this. Wilkes noted the head was gray and “appeared to have been chewed on.”
Other incidents on file at the sheriff’s office this week included:
•While checking a vacant residence on Pine Valley Farm Road last week regarding an earlier complaint of trespassing, officer Jeff Strickland found that a rear door had been broken out and was standing open. Wiring to the furnace was found cut and a hot water heater had been taken. Strickland called corporal Alan Stratton, who had been at the residence earlier in the day, who told him that everything was fine at that time. He told Strickland he had a suspect in mind. Strickland then traveled to a residence the suspect is remodeling, where he noticed a water heater had recently been installed, but not hooked up. Pictures of the hot water heater, along with tire marks, were photographed.
•A family violence warrant has been issued for a man who allegedly struck his wife in the face at the red light in Danielsville. According to the incident report, a witness at the scene said he saw a man strike his wife with a closed fist. The wife said that she and her husband of nine years were having problems and that she had “had enough” of arguing with him. She said she was taking him to a residence in Madison County when she pulled over at the red light and asked him to get out of the van. At that point, according to the report, he got out and walked around to her side, opened the door and began to strike her. The witness said he saw what was happening and told the man, “if you want to hit someone, hit me.” At that point the husband allegedly fled the scene. Officer Gary Floyd noted that the woman had a red cheek and refused EMS attention.
•Jai’s Country Corner on Hwy. 106 was reportedly burglarized last week. According to the incident report, the owner said someone broke into roll up doors in the back of the store and took approximately $3,000 that he had instructed the store clerks to hide in a drink machine, due to recent burglaries. Surveillance video of the scene showed a subject jump the fence and pull up the roll up door approximately three feet before going under it. He then crawled out and jumped the fence again, leaving the same way he came. The owner said he, his wife and two clerks are the only ones who know where the money was hidden. A copy of the surveillance tape was handed over to the sheriff’s office.
•A woman came to the sheriff’s office to report that 12 of her checks were forged at various places around Madison County. She said that the account has been closed for about seven years and is unsure of where the checks were stolen from.
•A woman on Lem Edward Road reported that she has been receiving harassing phone calls and text messages from a man she knows only as “the meat man.” She said that he drives a green Ford Ranger with a box on the back with meat. She said he has been to her residence to sell meat and about a week before asked her out. She said that she turned him down and that Friday night around midnight he started calling and texting her, allegedly using vulgar language and threatening her.
•Suicide attempts were reported on Duncan Swindle Road and on Woodale Street.
•Criminal trespass was reported on Buford Carey Road last week when a woman said she came home to find a side entry door to her garage had been opened by force. Nothing was reported missing.
•Three vending machines were reportedly broken into at the freshman academy. Money boxes from the machine were taken.
•Criminal trespass was reported on Garnett Ward Road last week after a woman reported that a man she knows only as “Cowboy” or “Leon” came into her house while her mother was there, without permission. She said this is the third time he has entered her house without permission and is a suspect in a burglary case at the home.
•Simple battery and theft by taking were reported on Stoy Smith Road last week after a man called and asked for a welfare check on a 3-year old, saying there had been an argument at the residence earlier that day. When officer Wesley Bryant arrived, he met with a woman who told him she had tried to phone 911 earlier in the day when the caller knocked the phone out of her hand. She said that earlier, while the caller was there, she had left to go to her mother’s house to take her some food and that when she returned, the man accused her of sleeping with her stepfather. She told him to “quit cussing” in front of the child and when he refused to leave, she tried to call 911, and that’s when he slapped the phone out of her hand and grabbed her shirt, pulling her out of her wheelchair.
•A man on Joyce Court reported that one of his stepsons assaulted him during an argument with all three of his stepsons. The victim had a visible injury to the back of his right hand, which he said was because he used his hand to cover his head during the attack. He also said the other two stepsons had threatened him. The victim’s wife declined to give a statement.
•A woman on Dry Creek Road reported that $65 had been from a zip lock bag in her closet. She said she suspects a homeless man who she had allowed to stay at her house for a couple of days.
