Three people arrested following traffic stop
Three people were arrested recently following a traffic stop on Hwy. 72 at Sorrow Patterson Road for a non-working headlight.
The driver, Angela Gail Felts, 33, 1195 Hancock Road, Athens, was charged with DUI/alcohol, head/taillight requirements and driving while license suspended or revoked.
Passenger Richard Lee Hoyt, III, 40, 309 Cliff Griffith Road, Danielsville, was charged with possession of methamphetamine, prescription drugs must be in original container, possession of a Schedule I controlled substance and possession and use of drug-related objects.
A second passenger, Preston Dean Lunsford, 19, 310 Cliff Griffeth Road, Danielsville, was charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, hold for probation, possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance, prescription drugs must be in their original container and possession and use of drug-related objects.
According to the incident report, officer Josh Fowler observed a vehicle traveling west on Hwy. 72 with a non-working driver-side headlight and initiated a traffic stop. As the vehicle came to a stop, Fowler noticed the passengers begin to move around in their seats as if they were attempting to hide something. The driver, Felts, appeared intoxicated and did not have a driver’s license. She gave consent to search and said that when Fowler turned on his lights the passengers tried to hide something and she believed it was meth and a glass pipe. A search of the vehicle turned up a glass smoking pipe in the rear floorboard and a small plastic bag with a substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine. Three narcotic pills were also located inside the vehicle. Both men stated the items belonged to the other. All three were arrested and taken to jail and booked on the listed charges.
In another arrest, Madison County Jail inmate Tyson D. Evans, 25, was charged with aggravated battery after he allegedly attacked another inmate inside the jail. According to the incident report, he struck the inmate in the face several times, causing him to fall down, then struck him several more times before dragging him into a cell where he struck him yet again. Evans then dragged him to the stairs and pushed him down the stairs with his foot, causing a fracture to the man’s face, a broken nose and split lip, which required seven stitches.
