A Danielsville woman was arrested recently after she allegedly stole an elderly man’s car and debit card while he slept.
Amanda Joyce McCoy, 36, 723 Bonds Lake Road, was charged with financial transaction card theft, theft by taking and two counts of transaction card fraud. According to the incident report, the victim said he has allowed McCoy to live with him to take care of him due to his health. He said he awoke one morning to find his debit card missing from his wallet and his vehicle gone from the front yard. An investigation determined that the debit card had been used multiple times in Clarke County.
The car was later found on North Avenue and McCoy was located when she was spotted walking back toward the vehicle. She ducked into a homeless shelter to attempt to avoid arrest, but was apprehended by Athens-Clarke County PD. Once she was at the Madison County Jail, she reportedly admitted that she stole the victim’s debit card and truck after getting drunk and that she and a friend made several withdrawals on his bank account to buy drugs.
