Bailey gets 8 years on child porn charge

Madison County’s Barry Bailey was sentenced to eight years and one month — 97 months — in prison recently in federal court for possession of child pornography.


The former Ila Elementary School physical education teacher was also sentenced in United States District Court on Nov. 27 to 25 years probation and a $15,000 fine. A second charge of distribution of child pornography was dismissed by federal prosecutors.

Bailey’s computer use will be strictly monitored once he is free from jail.

The former school employee was arrested in March 2010 for possession and distribution of child pornography. There was never any evidence that local children were involved, that the crimes involved school property or that they occurred during the school day. There was also no evidence that Bailey made, or participated in the making of any of the videos that he was connected with. But Sheriff Kip Thomas did say after Bailey’s arrest that the children in the videos were young and that there were “multiple” videos that were shared and transmitted by Bailey on child porn sharing websites.

The investigation was initiated when Bailey began “chatting” on-line with undercover law enforcement agents/officers detailed to an FBI Crimes Against Children initiative.

In case anyone thinks there is a difference between viewing and making child porn, let me correct your warped thinking. Sexually abusing children to make kiddie porn for those who want to view it means that perverts want it first so others make it. Viewers, therefore, are as guilty of sexually abusing children as the actual ones who make the videos. Get it? Bailey may as well have made his own kiddie porn and had sexual relations with them for what his desire to watch it caused others to do. Get it? His desire caused those children in the videos to be sexually abused. Get it?!

First Off I agree 100% this man should be in jail, but not for the reasons Virginia stated. If we put people in jail for her reason we would all be guilty of mistreatment of slaves and anyone with a diamond would be a murderer. Just say Bailey was doing things to material that our society does not accept. Isn't that why we have laws we set a limit of what we except and go over it and go to jail. He went over it.

Those who support the products of slave labor or such similar things are totally complicite.

Why do we have a law against the viewing of kiddie porn? Such action in and of itself hurts no one, right? So why the law? What made our society make and accept this law? Why not a law just against the making of kiddie porn? Do you not see the reason for the line that our society set? Obviously, there are laws against pedophilia, the actual action played out in the videos. But as long as no action is taken, as (hopefully) was the case with Mr. Bailey, what is wrong with viewing kiddie porn? Aren't we free to do as we please as long as it doesn't hurt or interfere with others? How does demand for kiddie porn hurt children? If you can't answer this question, then your thinking is warped.

I agree with you on this one. What next if you look at a dead body you get charged with murder.
Personally I think a grown man looking at child porn is a man that's cheese had slid of his cracker .

However your point is well made . I have to ask also why wouldn't they go after the sickos making the porn ?

Free from what ?
I still have trouble grasping the notion of having a Government born out of the citizenry being of the people by the people and for the people yet not having any clear sign of being that form of Government . Freedom . well that's a whole different can of worms.

Perhaps most are naive or just do not get it or do not care . We can all do better than this twisted perverted system of Government and Capitalism without going Communists .

I'd like to think so, but most people don't seem to care for moderation and compromise. Pure capitalism, by its very nature, needs lots of restrictions in order to work fairly and socialism does not have to be pure; the latter can vary along a continuum depending on the issue and can, therefore, serve us well. It is the low-information voters who are so easily jerked around and manipulated who have hurt this country so badly and they, unfortunately, are the majority. That's why each party goes after them to manipulate; they are easy and the majority.

Miss Virginia Have you ever Heard of Richard Wolff ?
I have read some of his stuff and heard some of his lectures on capitalism and he has some really good ideas on how we could form co-ops as and alternative to this crony capitalists system . Its a great alternative to capitalism ,communism or socialism. Some business,s have already tried this in other parts of the world and even in our own country and they are doing quite well despite the economic turmoil
Might be worth a look for all of us.

Now the tax payers will have to support him. I know he will not have a luxury room but he will be fed / TV / housed and many homeless vets in our country do not have this and sleep under the so call underpass. This type of person in jail should be offered voluntary euthanasia if they wished it.
