Two struck with coffee mugs in domestic disputes

Epolite Leonce Hebert, 121 Sherwood Circle, Danielsville, was arrested after he allegedly struck his wife with a coffee mug after she poured his beer down the drain the day after Christmas.

According to the incident report, officer Jerry Whiddon was dispatched to the residence where he found Hebert on the front porch, drunk, with a bleeding hand. The couple’s 15-year- old daughter told Whiddon that she heard her parents arguing and when she and her two younger siblings came into the living room they saw their mother pouring their father’s beer down the sink drain in the kitchen. She said her father then struck her mother in the back of the head with a coffee mug. The mug broke, cutting her father’s hand. Mrs. Hebert said she was asleep when her husband came into the bedroom and fell on top of her. She said she was sick and told him to get off of her because he had been drinking. When he did, she got up, went into the kitchen and poured out his beer and he struck her with the mug. She had a knot on the back of her head from the blow.

He was taken to jail.

In another incident involving a coffee mug, Jeremy Daniel Stewart, 20, 2403 Brock Road, Athens, was arrested after he struck his younger brother with a cup on Christmas Eve. According to the incident report, the 16-year old brother was arguing with his mother about having to help out around the house. Stewart got involved, pushing his brother back from their mother. Then they began pushing each other and Stewart allegedly pulled out a knife, but placed it on the table and picked up a coffee mug, striking his younger brother in the face. Their mother, meanwhile, was knocked out of her wheelchair while trying to break up the fight.

Other incidents on file at the sheriff’s office last week included:

•A customer at Dollar General on Glenn Carrie Road reported that someone stole his 2006 Chrysler Sebring from the parking lot while he shopped. He said he left the car unlocked with the keys inside because he didn’t think anyone would actually steal it.

•A woman visited the sheriff’s office to report that her daughter’s on again/off again boyfriend had sent her a text message threatening her daughter’s life.

•A woman caught the burglary of her shed on Young Harris Road on videotape last week. The woman said she had cameras installed after the shed was burglarized earlier, in case it ever happened again. The tape showed two white males driving a light colored Ford Taurus pulling up into the driveway. The two men went out of camera shot and returned carrying items that they then threw into the car. They turned to go back but evidently heard something that made them jump into the car and leave in a hurry.

•A man on Oak Drive called 9-1-1 after his son showed up in his yard on Christmas Day despite the family having an active TPO against him. The father called 9-1-1 and the son told officer Josh Fowler that he just wanted to be with his family.

•A woman reported that her mother’s East Fifth Avenue home was burglarized while her mother was in the hospital. She said the back door was forced open and jewelry was taken from the jewelry box. A neighbor said he saw a young blonde woman standing beside a car in the driveway a couple of days before. He said the woman saw him looking at her and yelled out that she was the homeowner’s granddaughter.

•A woman on Woodale Street reported that her boyfriend tried to choke her son and that when she intervened he began to hit her and to break things in the house. He broke her phone when she attempted to call 9-1-1 and then fled into the woods when she got another phone and called for help.

•A man on Hickory Hills Road reported that his class ring was missing. He said he suspects his brother-in-law took the ring and pawned it. He said this is the first time items have gone missing since the man has been living with them and he believes he is on drugs and that he has a criminal record.
