Hull man charged with battery
A Hull man was charged with family violence last week when officer Josh Fowler was sent to investigate a domestic dispute.
Michael Shane Williams, 51, 120 Arthur Road, was charged with one count each of battery FVA and false imprisonment.
According to the incident report, Fowler arrived at the residence on Arthur Road to find a woman sitting in the yard, naked, while Williams was standing on the porch yelling at her. Fowler asked the woman to go inside and put some clothing on so he could talk with her. The woman told Fowler she didn’t know what was wrong with Williams, that he had just “snapped.” Williams said he was trying to talk to the woman about her using his “meth” and that he didn’t know what her problem was. He also told Fowler he had used meth earlier in the day and was “wanted” so knew he was going to jail.
Fowler determined that Williams did have an outstanding warrant out of Oconee County, so he was placed in custody. The woman then told Fowler that she was taking a shower when Williams came into the bathroom to question her on why she was taking and selling his methamphetamine. She said she did not know what he was talking about. Once she got out of the shower, and began to get dressed, Williams became irate and “went after” her. When she attempted to run outside, he allegedly grabbed her by her arms and punched her in the face, ripping her clothes off as she ran outside, where she began screaming for help.
In another incident, Gary Dwight Beck, 42, 1051 State Street, Commerce, was charged with battery FVA and cruelty to children last week after he allegedly caused his girlfriend to fall and strike her head during an argument over car keys and in the presence of their 6-year old son.
The boy stated that he heard his parents fighting and when he came out of the bedroom he saw blood on the floor and on his mom’s head.
Other incidents on file at the sheriff’s office this week included:
•Criminal trespass was reported on Stone Stewart Road after a woman reported that her son tore up items around the residence after he became angry that she would not let him and a friend use her truck. He allegedly cursed at her and then went outside, breaking a flower pot, tore down the phone line and threw a piece of wood across the hood of her truck. He then left, walking into the woods behind their house. She said that is his usual behavior after a “fuss” and that he would return in a few hours.
•Battery was reported on Hwy. 29 South when a woman in Diamond Hill Trailer Park reported that she had been assaulted. She said that her boyfriend got mad because he thought she was texting other men. She said he told her to go to bed and she refused, so he hit her several times on her face. She then heard him calling her daughter on the phone and yelled for her to call 9-1-1. Her daughter then came over and made the man leave just prior to the officer’s arrival.
•Battery was reported on AC Carey Road last week after a woman there said her 15-year-old son hit and choked her. She showed officer Michael Moore the marks on her neck. She said that her son was yelling at a 12-month old and had thrown chips at the child. She said she scolded him and he pushed her and she pushed him back. He then allegedly struck her and choked her. The boy stated he did not know why he had hit his mother. He was to be taken into custody by the department of juvenile justice.
•Disrupting public school and battery were reported at the high school last week after one female student attacked another, knocking her down, hitting her and grabbing her by the hair. They were separated by two teachers but the aggressor allegedly continued to try and grab the other girl.
•A man on Bedford Drive reported that his brother threatened to kick his @#$ and “gut him like a pig” if he called police. He said his brother made these statements on the phone after he called him to tell him not to come back to his house or upset his son.
•Burglary was reported on Jones Mathews Road last week after someone stole a portable air conditioner from a storage building.
•A man on Fowler Freeman Road reported that his grill was stolen from his front porch sometime during the night.
•Harassing phone calls were reported on Hwy. 98 West last week after a man reported that he was given power of attorney over a deceased man’s property, including his guns. He said that since the man’s death, the man’s son has been calling and harassing him wanting the guns. He said he refused to give the son the guns since he is a convicted felon.
•Aggravated assault was reported on Alberta Drive last week after officer Josh Fowler went to the scene in reference to a fight. Once there, Fowler found a man bleeding from the head. The man said another man he knows hit him in the head with a stick during an argument over a woman both men had been talking to. The victim was unable to answer Fowler’s questions fully due to his level of intoxication. The victim told Fowler and EMS personnel that he was “done talking” and wanted to go home.
•Middle school student resource officer Jeff Vaughn reported that he received information during a basketball game about a student telling others on his bus that he had been researching information on how to make a pipe bomb. The student in question was an eighth grader, according to the report.
•A man on Country Lane reported that his brother-in-law, who lives in Florida, had been calling and making threats to him and his family.
•Three suicide attempts were reported in the county last week.

•A woman complained of head pain after a wreck reported on Hwy. 72 at Country Living Mobile Home Park Feb. 4.
•Emergency workers were called to a Tommy James Road home after a toddler reportedly swallowed some Pinesol.
•A one-car wreck was reported on Hwy. 72 at the Dollar General Store Feb. 10.
•A chicken house fire was reported Feb. 11 on Sims Kidd Road in Comer.
