BOC chooses new Madison Co. road head

Madison County commissioners have chosen a new road department director.

And they didn’t have to look very far.

Acting road department director Alan Lapczynski, who has served as the long-time county building and grounds director, will soon be named the permanent head of the road department.

County commissioners agreed 5-0 March 4 to hire Lapczynski for the position, but the group won’t take official action for two weeks. County attorney Mike Pruett said the board must announce its intent to hire Lapczynski before an official vote.

The board agreed to pay the new director $44,349. That salary factors in Lapczynski’s 16 years of county employment.

County commission chairman Anthony Dove asked that the position be renamed to incorporate building and grounds duties, along with road responsibilities. Lapczynski will be the county “public works and road supervisor.”

The new road head replaces long-time director Charles Temple, who resigned in December after protesting a BOC change in policy regarding vacation pay.

MC small county. Ag still big business even though our real estate agents and canoe river so call "small business men" say otherwise. The salary reasonable. I for one tired of paying taxes for those that can work and do not. Yes I know those on unemployment that could work but would make only slightly more than if employed so stay on unemployment till can get no more. I think salary good. Lets look at other departments like zoning-animal control-tax office to see what can be saved there

I wish I had a dollar for every unemployed or under-employed English major I know. They all think they’re going to end up writing for The New Yorker or teaching poetry analysis at the university level. Colleges turn them out in droves, and the rest of us end up footing the bill for their defaulted student loans. To add insult to injury, when they can’t get a cushy job, they just keep on rollin’ with the dole and go to grad school on our dime. Since they have plenty of time on their hands, they tend to lurk around forums dismissing valid points because of grammatical errors.

I place much greater value on the opinions of people who can grow crops, clean out septic tanks, rebuild transmissions, repair power lines after a storm, or cook a really terrific omelet. Folks who don’t spend their days hovering over keyboards hyper editing their own glorious thoughts may not exhibit perfect grammar, but it doesn’t mean they don’t have something important to say.

Skools you are the type that when I go see a job that I find myself busy as do not want to deal with the entitled over educated type. Do not mind being talked down too but their so call time more valuable than mind is bull crap. I have enough business but get calls from those that I turn down a year or so later as I keep your name in a computer ledger and again you get to find someone else. That is time redistribution to the less educated more in need. I did get out of high school.

I have to agree. Many commenters here are an embarassment to Madison County and its school system. If they truly felt valued and secure, they would have no need to put down on people who use proper English. Obviously, they feel the need to defend their shortcomings. If they want power and respect in the world, one of the first ways to get that is effective communication and the first and easiest way to do that is proper English. Secondarily, being a good person with good skills and a fair mind will get them far indeed, even without perfect writing skills. Those kind never feel the need to put down others, no matter how "high" or "low" they regard others.

When people omit words from their sentences in an online post, it’s not because they’re imbeciles. It’s because they think faster than they type. Many people—especially older folks—were not taught keyboarding skills in school. So unless you want youngsters and desk jockeys controlling every dialogue, pipe down, nix the rudeness, and show a little respect for your fellow citizens. /rant

I've known plenty of elitists with Phds, but I've known a lot of them without a good education too. Your education level has nothing to do with being an annoying know it all. The elitists come in all shades and professions.
