Two Madison County men face theft and drug charges after a traffic stop on Hwy. 281.
Tommy Lee Gaddis, 52, 1213 Hwy. 98 W., Danielsville, has been charged with theft by taking (misdemeanor), possession of a schedule II controlled substance, possession of drug-related objects, two counts of theft by taking (felony), theft by receiving stolen property and theft by deception.
Keith Daniel Porterfield, 49, 74 Gooch Road, Danielsville, has been charged with possession of a schedule II controlled substance, possession and use of drug-related objects, two counts of theft by taking (felony) and one count of theft by taking (misdemeanor).
According to a report from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Gaddis had a felony warrant for theft by taking a motor vehicle. Deputies spotted Gaddis and pulled him over on Hwy. 281. Porterfield was also in the vehicle, a gold Chevy 1500.
Deputies found a glass smoking pipe with an off-white crystal-like residue that tested positive for methamphetamine. Gaddis said that it wasn’t his and that he already lost a vehicle due to drugs. Gaddis and Porterfield were transported to jail.
Gaddis also faces charges from a separate incident. According to sheriff’s reports, Gaddis allegedly sold a stolen lawnmower to a local pawn shop.
Other people arrested in Madison County this past week include:
•Cana Chambers Cleghorne, 30, 2285 Colbert-Danielsville Road, Danielsville, false report of a crime.
•Brittany Lasha Conwell, 34, 69 Chambers Lane, Comer, possession of marijuana — less than an ounce, possession of a schedule IV controlled substance and crossing state/county guard lines with weapons, intoxicants and drugs without consent.
•Chad Joseph Crumley, 41, 694 Blacks Creek Church Road, Danielsville, battery under the Family Violence Act (FVA) and order to incarcerate.
•Amanda Ann Fordham, 42, 1224 McGinnis Chandler Road, Commerce, failure to appear.
•Talmadge Pat Hanley, 56, 1120 Moreland Drive Lot 9, Watkinsville, theft by taking.
