An Athens man was arrested recently after an officer reportedly caught him speeding on Hwy. 106 South at JJ&G Drive.
Jose Arturo Cadena, 33, 240 Sycamore Drive, was also charged with driving without a valid license and child or youth restraint not used properly.
According to the incident report, officer Joshua Smith was traveling south on Hwy. 106 when he met a black Chevrolet Monte Carlo traveling north at a high rate of speed and activated his radar, which gave him a reading of 79 mph. He stopped the vehicle at Old Ila Road where he determined that the driver (Cadena) did not have a driver’s license and “had never had one.” The report also stated that he did not have a passport or a Mexico ID card. A 7-year- old child in the back seat was not restrained in a safety child seat or seatbelt. Cadena called his boss to pick up the child and his car and he was booked into the Madison County Jail.
Other arrests on file at the sheriff’s office last week included:
•Jennifer Marie Backer, 38, 1592 Pine Valley Farm Road, Comer, criminal damage to property in the second degree and three counts of disorderly conduct.
•Juan Jose Torres Rodriguez, 34, Neese Trailer Park, Hull, driving without a valid license.
•Charles Talmadge Stamey, 42, 7525 Neese Commerce Road, Hull, DUI/alcohol, open container, willful obstruction of law enforcement officers, reckless driving, speeding, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, passing in a no passing zone and failure to obey stop sign.
