An Athens woman was charged with shoplifting and obstruction after she fled on foot from the Glenn Carrie Road Dollar General Store recently.
Louchan Chavette Whitehead, 37, was taken into custody as she was trying to climb a fence on Williamson Drive.
Officer Joshua Smith noted that she has seven previous shoplifting convictions.
In another arrest, Thomas P. Combs, 35, was charged with aggravated assault after Madison County deputies apprehended him as he was getting gas at the Kwik Pick on Hwy. 72 in Colbert. According to the incident report, officers received a BOLO on May 5 for a green Plymouth Voyager with a handicap tag, driven by Combs. Dispatch described Combs as a “heavy set white male with bushy red hair” who allegedly held up a man at an ATM at the Regents Bank on Prince Avenue in Athens. Officers went to a residence on Charlie Morris Road where they reportedly spoke with the suspect’s mother, who said he had called and told her he would be home shortly. In the meantime, officer Burl Johnson spotted the van on Foote McClellan Road and followed it to the Quick Pick, where he and officer Josh Fowler, who was on stationary patrol there, apprehended Combs at the gas pumps. He was turned over to Athens-Clarke County police.
In a third arrest, Vanessa Joanne Farley, 27, of Canon, was charged with loitering or prowling after a man on Rousey Duncan Road called 9-1-1 to report that he found an “unknown woman” in his backyard when he came home. The man told officer Tracy Rucker that he found the woman (Farley) in his toolshed when he came home. He said he gave her some dry clothing and something to eat and drink. Rucker tried questioning the woman, who would not respond except to say she was from “Habersham.” Once at the jail, she gave Rucker her name.
