Madison County District 5 Commissioner Jim Escoe says he’d like to see the county go back to a five-member instead of three-member board of assessors.
And the board of commissioners will discuss the possibility at the group’s 6:30 p.m. meeting Monday.
Last week, the board voted 3-2 to re-appoint Janis Ellis to the Madison County Board of Assessors (BOA).
Escoe and commissioner John Pethel voted against the re-appointment.
The vote followed a recommendation by Escoe to name Reginald Hunter to the board.
“Not that Mrs. Ellis has done anything wrong; I’d just like to have a representative on the board and he’d do really well,” said Escoe, noting that District 5 doesn’t have any representation on the BOA.
The commissioner, a former assessor board member, said he feels every board member should be represented.
“Why can’t we go back to a five-member board with everyone represented?” asked Escoe.
