Agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Athens Office arrested Danielsville City Clerk Doratha Michelle Dills, 37, Danielsville, Friday, charging her with one felony count of theft by taking of over $56,000.00 of Danielsville city funds.
An audit revealed that more than $56,000 of Danielsville City funds for the fiscal year 2006 were taken without authorization. After the 2006 audit was completed, city officials contacted Madison County Sheriff Clayton Lowe, who requested the GBI conduct the investigation.
The investigation led to Dills being charged with stealing the city funds. Audits for fiscal years 2007 and 2008 are presently being conducted but there is strong indication the amount stolen will continue to rise with the completion of the audits, officials said. Dills was booked and processed into the Madison County Jail upon her arrest.
The investigation is ongoing.
No wonder our mill rate is extremely high and probably going higher.
I hope they get to the BOTTOM of this soon because the taxpayers are bleeding..........
As far as people go, I think too many people are living beyond their means. She was trying to keep up with the jones and has a champange taste on a yugo budget!
I hope that a judge reads this because there is no excuse for this type of behavior and they should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. No probation, community service, payback plan, JAIL!!!!!!!!!DO NOT PASS GO---STRAIGHT TO JAIL!
Then send her to jail.
should have to stand in front of the old court house
square with a sign that says I took from you and your
children, so that me and mine could have more!!!! We are
all in hard times right now, that does not give us the
right to steal from our employers or from anyone, get a
second job, do what ever you have to do to make a honest
living, give your children something to be proud of not
ashamed.
For most people that is ONLY because they don't have the chance to!
Pick 100 people out of a crowd, put each one in the same position as either of those women and 95 (or more) would do the same thing OR WORSE.
Gimme a break people, I doubt any of you are saints either.
YOU voted your BOC members in, YOU voted your BOC Chairman in, YOU (in Danielsville) voted your Mayor and City Council in. Wanna know who's fault this crap is? Take GOOD LOOK IN THE MIRROR!!!
Where were you when it could have been stopped?
Whiners, sitting on your butts too pathetic to get up and run for office yourself, and if you did you'd be worse than the losers that are in there.
Get over yourselves.
together, but by all means that doesnt give me the right to go and steal from the government! Sometimes you have to realizeyou can't have everything you want in life if you can't pay for it honestly and we should not live beyond our means. When are people going to learn you dont always have to keep
up with the Jones. She surely wasnt brought up that way. My prayers
will also be with her and her family. And if/when she is found guilty
she should be punished to the max!
These ladies are being tried before they have even been convicted by the grand jury. We will have the facts one day but until then we should keep a open mind.
You want to know who should be behind bars? Send the deputies to the Board of Commissioner's meetings with enough handcuffs to take them all in.
around. This could not be more true in this case.
and babies.
i don't believe in thievery.
justice must be served!
However, I disagree with your assumption of these citizens being Barney Fife's & terrorist defenders. Your extreme comment isn't any better than what you're complaining about. That's what freedom of speech is all about. As is freedom to agree to disagree. As taxpayers we are also innocent victims that have to deal with the repercussions.
I will give you credit where credit is due. You clearly understand the meaning of the word, "ignorant."
This county has been ran like "Mayberry" for so long, we the tax payers had no idea that our money was going in the front door and leaving the back door with unsuspecting office personnel. FIRE them and JAIL them!
there's no feasible answer that all commissioners and mayors don't check the books...just turning their heads until they believe they are about to be caught...
If these "girls" had needed money for food, or a light bill or gas to get to work, I bet they could have borrowed the money from a friend or family member until payday. But no, many of the items purchased by these individuals were probably not life supporting but lifestyle supporting.
