First Citizens Bank will close its branch in Ila in November.
The bank recently sent out a letter to customers informing them of the change.
“After careful consideration, we have decided to permanently close our Ila branch at 5440 Commerce Street in Commerce and consolidate those operations with our branch at 36 Hwy. 72 East in Comer,” the letter said.
The Ila branch will close Friday, Nov. 8, at 2 p.m.
First Citizens spokesperson Angela English said the Ila branch opened in 2008. She said First Citizens made the decision to consolidate the branch with its Comer bank to operate in an “efficient and profitable” manner. She said customers can still bank at the First Citizens in Danielsville.
“First Citizens remains committed to branch banking,” said English, noting that there are still other First Citizens branches in Comer, Danielsville, Hull and Colbert.
The bank has 180 total branches in Georgia and South Carolina, including 20 in Georgia.
English declined to elaborate on whether any current Ila branch employees will face layoffs.
“We’re making every effort to redeploy employees to other branches,” she said.
