A Madison County inmate was found dead in his cell early Sunday morning in an apparent suicide.
Charles Edward Crapps, 29, Loganville, was found hanging from a bed sheet in a single-person cell at the Madison County Jail by a detention officer doing routine checks at roughly 3:30 a.m. Sunday.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate the incident.
Madison County Sheriff Kip Thomas said Crapps was in jail for two months on a burglary charge. Thomas said he had recently been placed in an isolated cell after throwing a tray at an officer at lunch one day.
