Two people were killed in separate Madison County accidents Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 9.
Thomas Daniel, 51, of Lavonia died in a single-car accident on Hwy. 106 near Adams-Clarke Road. And Harley Kane Thomason, 24, Bowman, died in a three-vehicle accident on Hwy. 172 about three miles north of Hwy. 98.
According to preliminary reports from spokesperson Trooper Ian Moremen of the Athens Post of the Georgia State Patrol, Daniel was traveling north on Hwy. 106 when he drove across the south-bound lane and left the roadway. His vehicle struck an embankment and traveled through the air before landing and traveling 360 feet before striking a guide wire. The vehicle came to rest on its left side. Daniel was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a separate incident, Thomason was pronounced dead at an Athens hospital following a three-vehicle accident on Hwy. 172. Thomason was driving north on Hwy. 172 and James Randall Guest was traveling north on Hwy. 172, behind Thomason. Thomason slowed to make a turn into a private drive. Guest was following too closely to avoid impact. His vehicle then struck Thomason’s vehicle in the right rear, forcing Thomason into the southbound lane, where it struck a vehicle driven by Glenn McCannon.
Trooper Moremen said two patients were transported to local hospitals with minor injuries.
