Danielsville gained three new part-time officers Oct. 14.
Police chief Brenan Baird said the officers’ duties will involve primarily increased night time and weekend patrol. Officer Jonathan Burnette has already been working on a part-time basis for the city. Officers Gary Floyd, David Graham and Brian Anderson will begin patrolling this month.
In a related matter, the council adopted a 150-plus page standard operating procedure manual (SOP) for the police department.
The council also approved its short-term work program for 2013–2017, which includes a number of projects already in progress, such as upgrades to the city’s wastewater pond, a new 100,000-gallon water tank, the creation of a roundabout at the intersection of Hwys. 29 and 98 and renovations of existing aged water and sewer lines.
The council approved an intergovernmental agreement with Franklin County for the purchase of a water tank that will be moved from Franklin County and installed near the school complexes and future agriculture center on Madison Street. The purchase of the water tower is contingent on the approval of a Georgia Environmental Finance Authority (GEFA) loan.
“We are in a considerably better position with water than we were two years ago,” city attorney Dale Perry said.
