Madison County voters overwhelmingly approved renewal of the one-cent special purpose local option sales tax (SPLOST) Tuesday.
A total of 1,082 county voters (80.27 percent) cast a "Yes" for renewing the one-cent tax for county improvements, while 266 (19.7 percent) voted "No."
The turnout for referendum was low, with less than 10 percent of the county's 13,855 registered voters casting a ballot.
Also, Tuesday Todd Higdon was re-elected as the mayor of Danielsville.
The incumbent held off a challenge by one-time mayor Philip Croya by an 81-22 vote.
