A Conyers man was sentenced recently in Madison County Superior Court to eight years confinement for theft by taking.
Joseph Kyle Wood, 21, 2828 Zingara Road NE, Conyers, was also sentenced to six years and four months probation and fined $590 for theft by taking (reduced from burglary). A charge of failure to appear was dismissed.
In a separate case, Amanda Elizabeth Roberts, 30, 750 Franklin Springs Street, Royston, was sentenced to one year probation for homicide by vehicle in the second degree. She was also sentenced to one year probation for a child safety restraint violation and for failure to maintain lane. Roberts was fined a total of $1,095. Prosecutors chose not to seek convictions on charges of two counts of homicide by vehicle in the first degree, driving under the influence of a controlled substance and driving under the influence (drugs).
Dorothy Hilly, 76, of Royston, a passenger in a Ford F-150 driven by Roberts, died when Roberts overturned the vehicle on Wildcat Bridge Road in 2010.
Other actions filed recently in the office of the Clerk of Superior Court of Madison County include:
•Donnie C. Bright, 39, 161 Northwood Circle, was sentenced to one year probation and fined $320 for simple battery (reduced from aggravated battery).
•Donald Leo Syfrett Jr., 22, 174 Tarpin Road, was sentenced to five years probation and was fined $420 for possession of cocaine and one year probation for marijuana — less than an ounce.
•Quincey Daniel, P.O. Box 144, Colbert, was sentenced to one year probation and was fined a total of $392.50 for obstruction of officers and pedestrian under the influence. Prosecutors chose not to seek a conviction on a charge of terroristic threats and acts.
•Jerry William Cooper, 62, 19 Beaver Ruin Road, Winterville, was sentenced to seven years probation and fined a total of $100 on four counts of forgery in the first degree.
•Christopher M. Lord, 20, 366 Pine Street, was sentenced to one year probation for possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and two years probation for possession of hydrocodone. He was also fined a total of $790. Prosecutors chose not to seek a conviction on a charge of drugs not in original container.
•Chelsea Erin Cole, 20, 376 E. Fifth Avenue, Colbert, was sentenced to six days confinement for simple battery under the Family Violence Act.
•Brandon Michael Hankins, 25, 276 Moonlight Drive, Danielsville, was sentenced to one year probation for DUI drugs and open container violation. He was also fined $601. Prosecutors chose not to seek convictions on theft by taking, tire requirements and no proof of insurance.
•Tony Christopher Baxter, no age available, P.O. Box 413, Ila, was sentenced to six months probation and was fined $70 for driving while license suspended or revoked.
