The ideology of socialism seems to be increasing more and more during the past 30-40 years, especially among many Democrats, the news media, liberal academics and younger voters.
This is nothing new really because during the 1930s, socialists and even communists were prevalent and active in the power enclaves of the northeast and in Washington D.C. — aka Henry Wallace, Franklin Roosevelt’s chief of staff. If this trend continues and increases, American voters should be very, very careful who they support in the next several national elections. We could be the next country with a Putin like person as president.
Folks be aware that since socialism requires centralized government planning, great power is vested in relatively few people in the country. Such power in the hands of a corrupt and unscrupulous few people can result in great physical, financial, and psychological harm to a great many people.
If you doubt this, read the history of the world for just the last 100 hundred years and consider the 100 million or more people murdered, starved and enslaved by Adolf Hitler, Josef Stalin and Mao Tse Tung in the 1930s and 1940s. Those leaders and their henchmen were few in number compared to the number of people they ruled and killed.
However they used the power of centralized planning to do their murderous, evil deeds. It can happen here if we allow the principles of the Constitution to be whittled away. The Founding Fathers, guided by the history of man and the truths from the Bible, knew what evil-minded despots are capable of doing using government power.
Unlike our present day leaders, they knew and understood the lessons of history. That is exactly why they wrote our Constitution in a way that disperses and limits the government’s power over the people.
During the past 50-60 years, our leaders in all three branches of government have steadily eroded the principles of the constitution — principles that give us protection from tyranny and oppression from the government. And we, the people, because of mental laziness, apathy and political correctness have allowed that erosion to happen.
Read history and you will find the freedoms we’ve enjoyed since 1776 in the USA are not the default case of nations of the world in the past 5,000 years of history. In fact, our way of life has been the very rare exception!
That is why we like to refer to our country as an exceptional nation. Think about these things before you vote in next November’s election.
“Mr. President,” one aide in the meeting said. “There is a valid case that the provisions in this law undermine the Constitution.”
“Stop throwing the Constitution in my face,” Bush screamed back. “It’s just a ********* piece of paper!”
Your absolutely right about our leaders. However there is a difference in social welfare and health systems and government ownership of all private business. Most dictators come from right wing governments.
As for the Bush reference, you're tossing around a "quote" that has never been verified as true. The website that got the ball rolling for this supposed quote even admitted later on that they no longer believed it to be true. They could find no other source who could verify it AND later found that the "operatives" who provided the info lied about even being at the meeting.
Please give examples of "right-wing" dictators since they make up the majority. The one that everybody seems to name first is Hitler and that one is very debatable.
People like Glenn have no clue what a Socialist gov't really is. He is obviously clueless as to how things work in this country as well: Business owns our government leaders, not vice versa. That isn't going to change any time soon.
The historical examples he gives are of Fascist and Communist. Good for you, Glenn.
The Patriot Act and Homeland Security are Republican screw ups. Are those the examples of whittling away at the Constitution that you're talking about? I can't think of anything else in my lifetime (54 yrs) that even remotely compares.
