Dear Editor:
I helped at the Madison County Food Bank two weeks ago. As I left, trying my best not to cry, I thought of the Bible verse that says the mustard seed is the smallest of all the seeds, but with love grows into a large garden plant. I thought of that because we ran out of food after just one hour and had to turn hungry people away without groceries to take with them.
LETTER: Please remember the needy, donate to the food bank

I know it is tough for people in this economy, but here's a suggestion: clip coupons, shop for bargains and if you save $4, buy an additional $2 worth of canned goods or a less-perishable food and take by your local food bank. Many are suffering and great are the rewards of helping those in need.

I am the director of the Freedom Church of God Foodbank Ministry and I see what you are talking about every day. Last month we held our first Mobile Food Pantry, which we are going to have the third Tuesday of every month, and we helped 197 families and still it wasn't enough. We ran out of food also. It is absolutely heartbreaking to look into the eyes of someone, especially the elderly or someone with small children and know they will go hungry because you didn't have enough to give.
