A Comer man was arrested after officers were called to possible shooting on Barwick Hill Road.
The 57-year-old man was subsequently charged with obstruction and discharging a firearm while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Deputy Bradley Free was sent to the home.
When Free arrived on scene he made contact with the caller at the front of the residence.
Free asked the man who was shot and he stated “no one was.”
The man stated they thought his brother shot himself while talking to his girlfriend on the phone. He said his brother was inside the residence and was very intoxicated.
Free and another officer went inside where they found the man, who was “very disorderly and very intoxicated.”
They asked him if he told his girlfriend he was going to shoot himself or if he fired a shot while talking with her and he stated “no” to both questions. When asked if he owned any guns, he said yes, but would not tell them where they were.
Free noticed some empty .32 cal. casings on an end table in the living room and asked the man again if he owned a pistol and where it was located. He continued to be disorderly and would not say where his weapons were. The man took his right hand and placed his index finger on the chest of one of the officers and made the motion of “shooting” the officer. He was placed under arrest for obstruction at that time.
After a few minutes, the man finally told them the pistol was located in the dresser in his bedroom. The pistol had a strong odor of burnt gunpowder as if the gun was recently fired and contained one spent round in the cylinder.
While the man sat in the rear seat of the patrol car he began banging his head against the back door window and the partition of the patrol car.
Would this have happened if he was stoned on Pot? Would it? Look at all the trouble, time, cost (at taxpayer expense)and putting several people at risk that our acceptable alcohol causes. At least he didn't get in his vehicle and drive to his girlfriend's house and kill innocent people on the way (or her, if he got there). But no one got hurt so let's lift a glass in relief to celebrate, wine, beer, liquor - it doesn't matter; it's all good.
