An Athens man was arrested Friday on felony weapon and drug charges.
Justin Ryan Ferguson, 18, of 156 Ambler Drive, was charged by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office with one count of possession of firearms by a convicted felon and one count of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.
According to the incident report, Investigator Buck Scoggins received a call from Captain Jimmy Fulcher of the Oglethorpe County Sheriff’s office saying that he had made contact with a burglary suspect who was a convicted felon with a weapon in his possession. Fulcher requested assistance since the weapon was found on Grady Drive, Hull, in Madison County.
A pistol was found in the door panel of the vehicle. Fulcher also advised that Ferguson had admitted to the burglary of an Oglethorpe County deer processing facility, where he was an employee.
A witness had earlier observed Ferguson removing several items from his vehicle and burying them in the ground nearby, as well as hiding items under a trailer, according to the sheriff’s office. The items, which were later recovered by officers, included powdered cocaine weighing three grams and a cocaine rock weighing 8.2 grams.
Ferguson was transported to the Madison County Jail on the drug and firearm charges.
