Reference Matthew 12:36 in the Bible is why I am careful with all of my words – all of the time. I get angry but I do try not to sin.
My letter on Sept. 18 was directed to the anti-war protestors and to the people who might want to follow the anti-war protest path. (I am not anti-war or pro-draft.) Hoping to redirect even one person from the Cindy Sheehans of the country, I wanted to point out that people die of a lot of preventable things that do affect military folks too (as one man pointed out).
No death is trivial, but death is a fact of life, and our military personnel have shown themselves to be excellent in the fact that they have had fewer casualties than their would have been had they not been well-trained and warriors to be proud of. That said, our automakers could have applied the science to insure that fewer lives were lost due to drunk driving. (Protest that and do some real good.)
A lot of young folks are seeing things that make them think it was good to protest during the sixties. I was a teenager who saw it up close and I remember the odor of the hippies and the fact is, it wasn’t what it’s painted to be nowadays. I had a husband in Vietnam, as well as family members and friends. Some didn’t return. One was in a prisoner of war camp for a few years but he came home. I remember how the protestors spit on the returning military. Those cowardly, traitorous, wanna-be intellectuals paved the way for the socialism that has been seeping into our country yearly while Americans failed to notice.
One reader has tried to put her anti-war.com spin on my American Medical Association statistics. That’s where I got my numbers for the Sept. 18 letter, as I said in that letter. The Centers of Disease Control and the AMA and from the latest figures on the CNN channels. There is no use in more to this except to say that peevish folks need to tone it down a notch and put their brain in gear before they start their motor mouth running. The critical woman who went so far as to once call me “delusional,” has left herself open to potential libel. The written word in a hometown newspaper isn’t the same as anonymously spouting off on the Internet. That’s some free advice that you can take to the bank.
Sincerely,
Jo Anne P. White

She did say that she doesn't think that protesting the war is the way to accomplish things. She also implied that she believes in our soldiers, and that she doesn't think that the anti-war protesters should denounce or mistreat our vets.
I think most of our military would rather be home rather than half the world away doing what they have to do. But they are in a dangerous place doing a dangerous job regardless of if they want to be there or not. If you don't think they should be there, don't blame them or mistreat them.
I also agree that it was absolutely shameful how the Vietnam vets were treated when they returned to the United States. They should have come home to a hero's welcome but were spit on instead. That certainly is NOT the way to oppose decisions made by the president, congress, and military leaders.
So, again, the pertinent question: If she isn't anti-war, why isn't she in Iraq or Afghanistan, fighting the wars?
Not being OPPOSED to something does not make you in FAVOR of it. Or did you forget that sometimes overlooked position of merely being indifferent to something.
YOU are merely trying to twist her words into something that she never said in order for YOU to take issue with it.
So...why don't you just spit it out and tell us what your gripe is instead of insisting that someone else said something that you know they did not say?
And I am anti-war myself. But I also understand that there are times that if you do NOT fight, then the bad guys WILL win.
I wish everyone would "live and let live" but it just isn't so.
I don't want to hurt anyone or get into anyone else's business.
But I WILL fight for what I believe to be right if pushed.
I wish we didn't need a military. I wish our military wasn't spread all over the world. I wish our military didn't have to kill or be killed.
But I'm glad that we have them and I'm glad that they do their jobs because if they didn't, I wouldn't be here wishing. And I don't care if anyone else likes my opinion or not, but since everyone else is expressing themselves, I will too.
Yes We Can! Yes We Did!
