Democratic challenger
Education/work experience:
I am a graduate of Madison County High School. I went on to work in the banking industry. I worked for Georgia National Bank for 2 1/2 years then went on to work at SunTrust Bank for 6 1/2 years. Since leaving the banking industry, I am now a stay at home mom. I have lived in Madison County for 40 years.
1. What makes you the most qualified person for this position?
I have lived in Madison County for 40 years, and now live on a poultry farm in Colbert with my husband and two children. I believe Madison County is a great place to raise a family. I also believe my background in the banking industry will be a great asset to the county. The nine years in banking, working with clients, helping them with all types of issues, getting them solved in a timely manner and gaining their trust, just made all the difference in the world to my clients and I. Whether it be helping someone with a problem or just helping to achieve a certain goal that was important to the client, it could really make a difference that they would feel confident enough in you to refer other business to you. With the opportunity before me now, it will be a pleasure to work with the members of the BOC and the citizens of Madison County.
2. What do you think is the most important issue facing this county?
There seems to be more than one issue facing this county, but I would have to say the most important would be the missing funds in the BOC office. We need strong leaders.
3. Name three specific things you want to accomplish if elected?
a. I would like to restore accountability in the courthouse; b. I would support a complete audit of the chairman’s office spending habits; c. I would support decreased spending in order to lower property taxes.
4. Please offer your opinion on how this county should grow (or not grow).
I would support and actively pursue federal and state grant money to entice any alternative fuel industry, such as the production of ethanol from agriculture products.
5. Do you feel there are situations in which property tax increases are warranted? If so, can you give an example?
No.
6. Do you feel all departments in the county government are appropriately funded? If not, where would like to see additional money go, and where would you like to see cuts?
I would like to take a look at each individual office and see whether or not adjustments could be made.
7. In your opinion, what is the best decision the BOC made over the past four years and what is the worst? Please explain:
I am not familiar with all the decisions the BOC has made over the past four years. I think from what I am hearing and reading in the papers every week that the hiring process may not be done in good judgment to have the most qualified and knowledgeable employees working for us as hardworking, taxpaying citizens. As far as best decisions, I think for the most part, most of the citizens are satisfied in knowing that we all have to work together to make this county a great place to call home.
8. Is there anything that has not been mentioned that you would like to discuss?
I would like to let the citizens of District 5 know that if elected, I will work very hard for each and everyone and be someone that you can count on and trust.
