Long-time Madison County Probate Judge Donald “Hoppy” Royston has announced that he won’t seek re-election in November.
“I will be retiring at the end of the present term, Dec. 31, 2008,” wrote Royston in a press release. “It has been my privilege and I have enjoyed serving as Judge of Probate Court for 32 years. There is a time for all things and I feel that it is time for me to move into retirement. My family and I wish to thank each of you for your support. May God bless our county.”
Madison County Sheriff’s Investigator Cody Cross and former Athens-Clarke County Chief Clerk of the Probate Court Joley Cape Barber have both announced their candidacies for probate judge in 2008.
