The board of directors has the responsibility of running the operation of our program. The board makes decisions that are in the best interest of all the children in our program
We are required to operate our program under the rules and regulations of Little League International. Some of the specific duties include: paperwork that needs to be filed with corporate headquarters, registrations, finding sponsors for our teams, fund-raising, try-outs, drafting teams, scheduling, working ball games, hosting all-star tournaments, selecting all-star teams, and having regular meetings with the board and the district.
Another item that the majority of the parents in our program do not understand is what a wonderful job the Madison County Recreation Department does for our program. The Director of the MCRD, Dick Perpall; Asst. Director, Robin Pendleton; Maintenance Coordinator, Grady Autry; and the entire staff do an outstanding job. Everyone needs to understand just how blessed we are and how fortunate we are to have such a great facility to play baseball and softball. We need to thank Dick Perpall and his staff everyday for their work.
On Thursday, October 30, we will have our annual meeting of the general membership of the Madison County Little League at 7 p.m. in the board of commissioners meeting room in Danielsville. The general membership consists of all managers, coaches, parents and Directors. At this meeting, we will be electing the Board of Directors for the 2009 season.
The problem every year is that we never have enough people at the annual meeting to fill the spots on the board of directors. We usually have to go out and talk to the general members and beg them to come be a member of the Board. We have 450 kids in our program, 800-plus parents, not including grandparents, and we cannot get 20 people to volunteer their time and talents for the kids of this county. This is sad. I have been a member for seven years and every year we have this same problem. I don’t understand this at all. We all have jobs, family and kids but we make time for other things, why not Little League and our youth. My belief is that if you really believe in Little League and want to see the program improve, you will find the time to help. We need board members that want to see the program grow for all of the kids in Madison County.
I would like to thank all of the volunteers that have worked very hard this past year and years past. Without all of us working together, none of what we do would be possible.
I am asking for more participation at our annual meeting and also for more volunteers to serve on Board of Directors. If you are interested in our program, whether you have children playing or not, please come to the annual meeting. If you plan on coming to the meeting, please contact me so that I can have a feel on the number who will attend. My phone number is 706-206-2153 and email address is cbranson@collinscpa.com
Once again, thank you for all of your help and support.
Sincerely,
Chuck Branson
President, Madison County Little League
