They were human beings with varying skills and concerns who participate in the democratic process determined to make America better with a new administration that is less concerned with protecting the interests of the super-rich. They want to see our country return to open, honest government that serves Americans while respecting international law. The Bush administration has failed us in many ways, not the least of which is its fascination with executive powers and an ability to bring out the worst in people by capitalizing on fear and loathing.
Talk I have heard in our county about Barack Obama being a Muslim, a non-American, a “black,” and a liar, disturbs me profoundly because it is the kind of nativism and fearfulness that keeps us all from rational, respectful and deep debate that is so necessary to a democracy.
I salute John McCain for his service to this country and his bid for the presidency, but I am even more grateful for a man like Barack Obama who is brave enough and open enough to keep our public debate and our government’s purpose focused on real needs of our citizens.
These are exciting and demanding times we live in. Southerners, especially rural Southerners, are especially good at dealing with adversity. We have experienced first-hand the failures of economies, the suffering caused by misguided social structures, and the vagaries of isolation and poor health care. We know the meaning of frugality and self-reliance. We are resilient and courageous and we have communities that are steeped in heritage, spirituality, family and an appreciation of the natural world. We already know that materialism, consumerism and hatred get us nowhere as a society.
I hope we can vote for a president who will bring out the best in all of us as we face the challenges of a difficult world. Barack Obama and Joseph Biden make an excellent choice.
Sincerely,
Melissa Tufts

'Twas the night before elections
And all through the town
Tempers were flaring
Emotions all up and down!
I, in my bathrobe
With a cat in my lap
Had cut off the TV
Tired of political crap.
When all of a sudden
There arose such a noise
I peered out of my window
Saw Obama and his boys
They had come for my wallet
They wanted my pay
To give to the others
Who had not worked a day!
He snatched up my money
And quick as a wink
Jumped back on his bandwagon
As I gagged from the stink
He then rallied his henchmen
Who were pulling his cart
I could tell they were out
To tear my country apart!
" On Fannie, on Freddie,
On Biden and Ayers!
On Acorn, On Pelosi"
He screamed at the pairs!
They took off for his cause
And as he flew out of sight
I heard him laugh at the nation
Who wouldn't stand up and fight!
So I leave you to think
On this one final note-
IF YOU DONT WANT SOCIALISM
GET OUT AND VOTE!!!!
Most of the world has grown beyond that but we still have a group of people who simply, for the color of skin, race or religion, hate entire races of people: Blacks, Asians, Indians, America and the Far East, Hispanic, Jews and every color, religion and race but their own. Well as I’ve said here before there aren’t that many true white folks around anymore and we have all races and religions. Do a little digging into your own background and you’ll probably discover you are not pure white. Greed and laziness from the white brought all these other races here to do their work. Indians here scared them because they were different and had red skin; they called Indians heathens and tried to destroy the whole race.
Hey, but Hitler was a Jew and he tried to wipe out his own race. Now explain that, sounds sick to me, a sickness fueled by paranoia and fear just like what happened here with the true American natives.
"Jesus Christ would NEVER stand for a candidate that supports killing. It is that simple."
Hey but your God approves of warmongers?
"Also, Jesus did teach that we should care for others, but that is the CHURCH'S responsibility not the Governments."
That doesn’t work. There has been a decline in church attendance except with the blacks and the offerings or tithes are way down. Do some research?
My early childhood was spent in the town where I was born, Waycross. We had many preachers in my family, Baptist and Evangelicals and I watched those folks, hey I decided at a young age that I did not want to be like them and I thank God my dad had the sense to move us out of there and to Florida. There were racists in Florida but there were also more people in the bigger cities and the racists were a minority. Back in the fifties a majority of the people had the same prejudice I see in some here today. I also thank God that my family did not teach us to be prejudiced. That’s how I taught my children.
If I were to get involved with a church again it would be to a church with a minister like
Pastor Jonathon.
It's actually sarcastic and sneering truth... just like a Democrat, you misrepresented my aim as a conservative.
There were no racist overtones in that poem.
Warmonger... is that what you call a person who would stand up for the oppressed and downtrodden? If so, then yes. My God stands for that.
At second reading, it seems that your racial rants point towards your own racism. Perhaps it even shows why you are an Obama supporter and feel, as Michelle Obama does, that America is a "downright mean country." If your family didn't teach you to be racist... where did you learn it?
At least you have a reason for supporting him. I agree, you would be happy in Pastor Jonathon's church or even one run by Rev. Wright or Father Flager.
Now we hear stories about the money Obama has spent on his campaign, some say he must have got it illegally.
I can say this; the last few Presidential campaigns I’ve voted in I’ve sent only one donation to the candidate of my choice. I’ve sent five donations to Obama/Biden.
Say if one million of us sent in one hundred dollars each, that’s a lot of money.
Folks are just picking boogers where Senator Obama is concerned. He’s different, his name, his color, his whole life story but I try to judge him as an American who only wants the best for his country and like the rest of us he has seen the devastation done to us by politicians we trusted. Being different does not make someone evil.
When I hear things like his owning one car, the holes in his shoes and both he and his wife have to work to keep up, well that sounds like my family and many folks I know.
My grand daughter and her husband own a few homes in California and they get to travel around the world but they both work hard and some things they have to sacrifice, like fancy cars, expensive clothes and flashy jewelry. They’re holding off on children until they are better prepared and the world is a little safer. Tabitha went to school here in Madison County and she left Georgia with values she got from us. Georgia does great work and some of the greatest folks in the world come from right here and I believe we can all pull together, Republicans, Independents, Libertarians and Democrats.
Obama has what we need to get out of this mess. Listen to him. He is consistent about his plans to bring this country around. He is saying now what he was saying months ago.
He has a plan and it would behoove everyone to do his or her homework. He has some great ideas.
I don’t dislike McCain or Sarah Palin I just can’t see them running a country that is as screwed up as ours.
McCain has been a driving force for the last eight years and although he is one of our countries greatest heroes he has been instrumental for our failures.
Sarah Palin is a beautiful woman and would be a fun friend but she has too many skeletons in her closet that is not make-believe, but a fact. In Alaska she really is being investigated for several things that are too much like what our country is suffering from now, politicians who abuse their powers for personal gain.
How low do we want to go?
As for not being agents of those terms you posted, how can you not be? Just as Obama associates with known terrorists, former spokesman for the PLO, anyone's association and support of him, also supports his ideas that abortion is OK, that gay unions are OK, that its OK to stifle the truth, as long as the end result justifies the means.
You also state that you want a return to open and honest government. OK the media does not, nor does Obama, in my "opinion" support this idea. He refuses to release data on himself, has records sealed, including his own thesis, which could, in many opinions, show more towards the real "character" of this man. His campaign refuses to allow "hard" questions to be asked of himself and Biden, when a media does so, he cuts them off. Honest? Fair? I think not.
It is scary to think that one man; such as he, can by virtue of being a skilled orator, and a lawyer from an extremely liberal college, he can mesmerize so many with promises of what he knows himself he cannot deliver.
But then again, this world has often followed that path, but we must remind ourselves, someday, none of us will be of this world anymore... someday we ALL will give account of what we did and did not do.
Please feel free to respond... and Please have a great day.
Your comments are exactly what made this country great! But, I do not believe that either you or Susan have realy taken a look at Senator Obama for what he really stands for. I beg you to take the time to read his book. You will then see that he emphasizes Karl Marx views in regards to socialism. His views as well as his message in speeches is the reason why so many people think he is a "socialist". When he makes statements like, "from those according to their abilities and gifts - to those people according to their needs." it leads us all to question his real plan.
Do you think that everyone in our country has the right to take money from people that work hard for what they get? Susan, Do you realize that even though Sarah Palin has skeletons in her closet (most of us have something that we wouldn't want broadcast to the world) Do you know that Senator Obama has serious ties to anti-american groups? How can he represent our country when he is so close to John Ayers (a known terrorist), his relations ship for over 15 years with Jeremiah Wright - Pastor? who absolutely hates this country and teaches hate from the church. How can Obama say he did not know his Pastor's views were so negative of the country and that the US deserves all the attacks that come to us?
How can you support a man that is willing to call taking money from working people to give a tax rebate to people who have not paid taxes? Isn't this another way to say "welfare"?
As far as George Bush goes, I don't agree with all his policies but I can say that up until 2006 my 401K and my standard of living was pretty good. How about yours? Have you taken a look?
You know what happened in 2006? People iwth Liberal views took over the Legislature (both houses). Notice what happened over the last 2 years? Who do you think made it illegal for banks to refuse to make home loans to people at high risk? - your liberal legislature.
This came from the same people that say, "everyone has the right to own a home" Honestly, only those of us willing to work and scarifice can own a home.
Probably the most important of all concerns for me that keeps me from supporting Senatoer Obama is the fact that he will not budge on partial birth abortion and even worse that he is the leading character in the battle over letting new born babies die if they survive birth during an abortion attempt. How can someone allow a life to just lay on a table and die with offering no help?
Senator Obama, says it is too stressful for a mother that wanted an abortion to let a Dr. keep the baby alive.
Sorry to be so long. I am neither a Democrat or Republican, but most importantly I am an AMERICAN. I am proud of my country and the sacrifice that my father made at Normandy, and my grandfather's sacrifice in Germany during WW II.
I sincerely hope Obama does not become President or we will see our country reverse so many gains achieved in the last 100 years.
No matter who wins the next year will be hard. If McCain wins the Legislature will do everything possible to make him fail, if Obama wins he will fail on his own.
I have one last question- if Obama wins will you please make posts on this site every 6 months to HONESTLY tell us all how good Obama has made your life since taking office?
I wish you all the best!!!
Jesus Christ would NEVER stand for a candidate that supports killing. It is that simple.
Also, Jesus did teach that we should care for others, but that is the CHURCH'S responsibility not the Governments.
Please tell me chapter and verse where Jesus Christ taught that it was okay to murder babies just because they were unborn.
Are you too young to have suffered under President Jimmy Carter? I would put forth that he was much more in line fundametally with the teachings of Jesus.
However, killing innocent adults with bombs and war is a choice we can make through our choice for President. I believe Obama as President will put an end to the lies and deception we have seen that involved the United States in a war with Iraq that has cost not only the lives of our young men and women, but hundreds of thousands of innocents caught in the crossfire.
I believe Obama will not be a Bush style leader...say one thing to the American people and do another. I believe John McCain has made it clear he prefers military conflict to talking and diplomacy. McCain is also too divisive, selfish, wealthy and mean. "It is easier to thread a rope (some say camel) through a needle..."
I believe Obama will be more in line with the teachings of Christ: honest with the American people and willing to talk before dropping bombs on people.
The choice to murder is undoubtedly up to every individual. However, the sanctioning of that is not something that a morally right country should have as a policy.
The war in Iraq freed innocent people from the oppression of an evil dictator. You can believe what you want but I would love to see your statistics on the "innocents" caught up in the crossfire.
McCain, "I believe," as a military man and a former POW would be more likely to use all diplomatic means before taking military action. McCain also would not be a "Bush style leader." He has consistently shown himself to be unafraid to buch party politics and vote his conscience. Has Obama? No, he hasn't.
Obama is also divisive and wealthy. I don't think either candidate is selfish and neither one of them seems to be mean spirited. Perhaps you should read the last chapter of the Book of James, Pastor, before you deign to pass judgment on Senator McCain's ability to gain access to Heaven.
Matthew 7:1 "Judge not, lest ye be judged."
Do something Obama won't do... answer a direct question with a fitting and direct answer.
I sure do hope he isn't a real pastor, because judgement for a pastor misleading his flock isn't a judgement I would want to answer to.
Would you be so self-righteous on the issue of a woman's right to choose IF you knew Sara Palin had an abortion?
What makes you think that I am "self-righteous?" I have sinned and have fallen short of the Glory of God. Sinning, however, does not condemn me if I have confessed it and repented, Praise God. It does not force me to abandon, forever, my observations or force me to give up my ability to speak out of issues of right and wrong. You mistake honest thought and clear reason for self-righteoud indignation. I wonder, why is that?
As I have said before, every woman has a right to choose to murder her unborn child or anyone else if they see fit. Murder is not sanctioned by the state in any other part of life, why should it be sanctioned against the unborn? Would it be any less a crime if the child was 6 months old? After all, one could call that a "retroactive abortion."
Everyone has the right to choose to go to Hell or confess his or her sins and repent. That does not change the fact that murder is wrong in any form. One of the main reasons for our government in the US is to provide for the common defense... not to sanction murder. That's reaally what it is, isn't it? Pro-Choice is a feel-good word for Pro Death.
Whether or not Sarah Palin ever had an abortion is immaterial. If she hads I am sure she lives with the consequences of regret every day. I don't condemn women who have chose abortion over abstainance, adoption or raising a child. The very act, however, is wrong no matter who makes the poor choice. I hate the sin, but no matter what you choose to believe, I love the sinner.
It is never too late to start making wise decisions... until you choose eternal death instead of humbling yourself, confessing your sins and repenting.
If that is your "one big reason" for voting for Obama, then I find it hard to believe you would take the time to actually visit the polling place.
The Democratic Party depends on people like you... that is not a compliment.
It is that she stated she would release them, and has not. Thus far, she has lied. Which then makes me wonder what she is hiding in her medical records? Word is that she may have had an abortion. If so, then her opposition to abortion would be wrong. If it's good enough for her, it's good enough for someone else.
Bottom line: She said they would be released last week. Now it is Monday. Still no medical records. I hope they turn up in the next few hours or this Republican is going to cast a vote against the same old politics of lies and deceit and cast a vote for the Democrats this time around. Something's gotta change.
... for obvious reasons.
Like saying "Obama pals with terrorists". You may have noticed, everyone has heard this tripe. MOST have the intelligence to analyze if there is any truth to it. You could more honestly say Sarha Plain pals around with successionists. Her husband hates America so much he joined a group trying to secede from our country. McCain pals around with Fannie Mae lobbyists- his campaigh manager was receiving huge payouts right up until the meltdown. And so on.
"Socialist" "Marxist". You all really should pick up a book sometime. We spread the wealth EVERY time we make a purchase. You spread the wealth to Exxon when you buy gas, you spread the wealth to Haliburton when you support the war, you spread the wealth to Saks fifth Ave when you donate to the Repblican fund for Palin's wardrobe. Spreading the wealth to the middle class is probably more beneficial. Why are people so stuck on this "my money for those who don't work" thing? How hateful, and misleading. No one wants to support the sorry. But as Christians, we all want to support those less fortunate. I for one am happy to "Give as I have prospered" 1 Corinthians 16:2.
Bill Ayers is an unrepentant terrorist.
Barak Obama received more money from the Fannie/Freddie fiasco than any other lawmaker.
I'll give you a book to pick up sometime: The Obama Nation by Jerome Corsi. How about "The Communist Manifesto" by Karl Marx .... look for that part where he talks about taking from every indivudual according to his means for every individual according to his needs.
You miss the point about "my money for those who don't work." It's not that "we" don't want to give to the less fortunate... it's that we don't want to give to the government, a government which is top heavy, to have them decide what the best use of our money is. As a Christian would you rather trust the government with your charitable contributions or the Church with your tithes and offerings to do good works in His name?
Can you provide me with the definition of being a "Christian” if so, can you tell me where it’s a Christian attribute to vote for one that supports the killing of unborn children, even partial birth abortions? Where a child, not a "fetus" as many refer to it, a child; alive and trying to survive has its brains suctioned out, before it has a chance to live. Your candidate supports that. He voted to support it. Can you also tell me where a Christian is to accept the unions of gays and lesbians as being equal to a union of a man and wife?
We all will give account some day for all we say and do, as well as for those times when we had a chance to say and do something, except we chose to be a part of this world instead of being a Christian.
Please go back to that Bible you quoted from, and direct me to where it states what I have mentioned as being a Christian act.
Thanks and have a wonderful day
I remember in Waycross, Valdosta and other southern states seeing signs that read (no coloreds) and (no Indians) at many of the places we frequented. Then there were the water fountains, one for whites and one for coloreds or Indians.
My dad was raised in a family who at one point in the past were slave owners, so was my mom. Both of my parents had Indian blood but they were not allowed to discuss it. My granny on my dad’s side bleached her skin so she would look whiter. Indians, who’d been badly abused by the white race, who had tried to erase their Indian beliefs and heritage, for self-preservation they themselves tried to be white.
I remember kinfolks telling me blacks and Indians didn’t have a soul. These were church going folks and they were only saying what they had been taught. I was a hardheaded kid and I would tell them they were wrong which kept me in trouble and made me an outcast by most of my family members. I was also a very lonely child because of my beliefs.
In the later fifties we moved to Florida. I was with a more diverse community and fit right in. That was in the fifties and now in 2008 we still have racists. Not just white folks but blacks and Indians as well, plus other races from other countries. Racism is just as ugly with blacks as it is with whites and it’s in every state.
When racism came up in my family I remember both parents telling me they knew racism was wrong and it’s no telling what my dad went through living in a racist family, I do know he despised the KKK.
Thinking that what happened way back when gives us a right to be prejudice today is as wrong as a white person thinking they are better than other races.
Until we all accept that, we are the same, no better than anyone else regardless of race or religion we are going to have rivalry and wars.
Barack Obama is white and black and was raised by whites and he dearly loved his mother and grandparents.
Talking about racism is one way we can grow. I talk about it all the time with my kids and they talk about it with their children.
Teaching racism to children will only make their life hard.
Ever wonder why the kids today dress like their black peers and even copy their dialect, I think those kids are called “whiggers.” Back in the sixties young people left home in protest to their parents and we lived with young black people and people of all races.
Charles Manson was a racist; he was not a “hippie or flower child.” He was a very sick person and so were his followers. He taught his followers racism.
So many folks are afraid of Senator Obama because he is black, well he is not black he is half black and half white and I’m sure his life was tormented by racist whites and racist blacks.
I believe Barack Obama has what it takes to turn our country around, unify us and get the United States on the right track.
The more we talk about racism the better off we will be.
I agree that some people are afraid of Barack Obama because he is half black. I can imagine that growing up as half black and half white and fully accepted by neither race could be a sad life for a child. I, for one, admire his fortitude and his perseverence. I admire him for facing the things that he has faced in his life and overcoming. There are many things about the man which are admirable. If there weren't he would not be in the position he is today.
I also admire you for having the courage to stand up for what you believe.
I don't agree with you or with him, I am sure, on what this country needs, where it needs to go or how to get there. I am glad that we live in a country where we are free to disagree in an open forum.
Senator Obama probably does have most of the tools that it takes to "turn our country around, unify us and get the United States on the right track." Sadly, he does not have the ideas, philosophy, or understanding of economic, foreign policy, national security or domestic issues to enable him to use his talents to the ultimate good od the United States.
John McCain may not be the best candidate that ran for the office of President. He is, however, the best candidate left in the race four our country.

Here's a link with translations of some of the French phrases used in the call. Anyone who had ever been to France, talked to a native French speaker, or heck, even watched a French film would NEVER believe this outrageously overdone accent was actually a Frenchman, much less Sarkozy!

Enjoy.
So, we must respect a woman's right to choose and not pass judgment. Her choice is between her and God. There are many factors in a woman's choice in having or not having a baby or having or not having an abortion: her health and the threat a birth may represent to her health or life, rape, incest, unintentional pregnancy, or simply her desire to give birth or not to give birth. I do not defend or attack any of these choices. I will love this person regardless of what she chooses to do in any aspect of her life. I do not know all of the circumstances a particular woman faces, nor do you, nor does anyone else, nor should she be compelled to share those reasons with you or anyone, and if she were so compelled she probably would not be honest anyway. No, in my church we respect free will and understand that each of us has free will and we all face many difficult choices in our lives, and it is not for me or anyone else to pass judgment on those choices. In my church, we love all equally regardless of one's sins. We have some members in our church that I know came to us because, upon facing difficult choices, they were pressured, ostracized and even threatened. The God I serve does not agree with these actions of people passing judgment on others for the choices they make. The God I serve tells me to love all equally and be forgiving. So, no matter the choices made by others, the laws broken, the crimes committed, we are to be loving and forgiving towards all.
do you have any Happy Kum-by-ya stories for us?
