This year’s Thanksgiving dinner, served by Proverbs 11:25, will be in memory of my husband, Carmine Costello.
Eleven years ago Carmine realized his dream to help the people in our community that need it the most. It was one of his greatest joys to shop and prepare and serve Thanksgiving Dinner at Carmine’s.
Last year we did not serve because we spent a quiet Thanksgiving at home with our immediate family. We spent it giving thanks for each extra day we were given with Carmine. On January 3, 2008, Carmine went to be with the Lord, and his dream lives on. It is the legacy he has left us and we hope to honor him by continuing this tradition.
Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, 2008, we will be serving dinner to those in the community who need our help. Please put the word out and let people who are in need know they can sign up for this Thanksgiving Dinner.
These are the neighbors who are homebound, or may have no family to celebrate with, or have just lost their job and just can’t make ends meet. The single parents, the homeless…I can go on and on.
There are three ways that we serve, we deliver to the elderly and homebound, we box meals for those who have transportation and can pick up their orders and from 11:30 to 12:30 we will be serving dinner at the restaurant for those who would like to dine with us.
We need your support and we’re asking you to dig deep. In order for us to succeed, we need your donations of money, food and time. We need money to purchase all the food that needs to be prepared. We would love for you great bakers and cooks to donate desserts and side dishes to go with the meal. We also need volunteers on Thanksgiving morning to finish preparing the food, setting up, boxing the meals, organizing for meals to be picked up, decorating and setting up for dinner and cleaning up. We need volunteers to drive throughout Madison County delivering these meals to the homebound and giving a word of encouragement to our neighbors. I know with all the job cuts and high gas and food prices things are hard for all of us, and so this is when we all pull together as a community to help each other out. What a wonderful way to remember that in the midst of all the turmoil that is our life today we can still give thanks for the blessings God continues to pour on us daily.
You may sign up to volunteer at Carmine’s restaurant in Comer or for dinner reservations you may call 706-797-3679. If you would like to prepare a vegetable, donate a turkey or ham (uncooked) or prepare desserts please sign up at the restaurant or call. We need to know how much prepared food we will have before we go shopping on Monday the 24th of November. We would appreciate all prepared foods to be delivered on Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving.
Any donations can be given to Daniel Costello at Carmine’s or you may send donations to Merchant and Farmers Bank, you can write checks payable to Proverbs 11:25.
